82 928 weisach
Hi All, I’m looking at a 82 928 weisach edition for sale.
Does anyone know how to determine the weisach production number based on the vin? Thanks! |

you may want to contact Roger at 928srus dot com. Also Rennlist has a very strong 928 forum that may provide additional details and has a sticky thread at the top of the page listing 928 that are for sale.

VIN vs Weissach Plaque Number
Hey Porschadoc - Does the 928 you are looking at have the numbered Weissach plaque on the dash ? According to Brien Long (Porsche 928 Reference Book) the 1st Weissach off the line was VIN #1677 but from this point on, there doesn't seem to be a direct relationship between the VIN and the sequential number count on the dash plaque.
Porsche reportedly produced about 205 of the 1981-82 special 928 Weissach limited editions to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Weissach research facility. For the additional $6k the Weissach featured every available option including the unique champagne gold (Hellbronze Metallic) paint , matching brushed gold alloy wheels, full 2 tone gold leather interior, a numbered dash plaque and a matching three piece set of Porsche luggage. They were powered by the 4.5 liter L-Jet FI engine, 3 speed automatic or 5 speed manual transmission, both with a limited slip differential. Many don't realize that along with the 928 there were also Weissach optioned 911, 944 and 924 editions that could be ordered. Here is an example of the type of dash badge you are looking for..... 1982 Weissach 219 -
Hey Porschadoc - After reading a couple of 928 Weissach discussions on the internet, one owner posted a photo of his dash badge with the count of 219. Obviously a few caboose Weissach 928's were built after the "Official Factory Assembly Line Counter" had put down his clip board and left for the day......
![]() Although the dash badge count is a block of sequential numbers, their associated VIN numbers are scattered all over the place. Porsche only built around 4 - 5 Weissach 928 cars a day so VIN number confirmation is reported to be looked up individually. Still a very rare car to own. Michael ![]()

Thank you guys for all of the input. The last 4 of the vin for this 928 is 1511 so it’s close to the above. A certificate of authenticity may be the next step.

have you tried talking to Roger at ************? Give him a call if you haven't. I think he may be able to look up the details via VIN number.

If it doesn't have the badge or the large certificate that states it's X of 205 and the dealer purchased from, you might try ordering a birth certificate from Porsche. It's still a gamble as it's not cheap and I don't know if it will give the number.
