Preferred Parking -
Hey Joe - Your Good Luck appears to continue. With that new license plate you should be able to get preferred parking right next to the door at any hospital - It stands for "American Board of Pediatrics - Intern # 73" ......:)
Good Luck - Michael |
It's been a while since I've been able to do much with the 928, but the weather's been dry and relatively warm, so I've made some progress.
I went out to Cars and Coffee last month and was genuinely surprised by the attention that the car received, even all dusty from sitting in the garage. https://black928s.files.wordpress.co...0113.jpg?w=750 Since my last visit here, I've installed a new stereo, a digital media receiver that was super easy to install due to its shallow design (no CD player.) With multiple color choices, I was able to find a good vintage-looking amber, although the stereo is still way too new looking. But, it does everything I want it to. https://black928s.files.wordpress.co...3300.jpg?w=750 https://www.crutchfield.com/p_130MS522BS/Pioneer-MVH-S522BS.html?tp=72453 (The subwoofer volume control has an obnoxious blue light that you can see further down the console.) Had a flat tire on the way to work last week, sidewall rupture so no go on Fix-a-flat and no spare... https://black928s.files.wordpress.co...3428.jpg?w=750 I purchased lift bars (liftbars.com) and tested them out on Saturday. I'm really happy with how quickly I can get it up in the air. https://black928s.files.wordpress.co...4927.jpg?w=750 I checked alternator voltage, cleaned some connections, replaced the engine ground cable, checked the transmission fluid, installed new brake pads all around, and put in one of these speedmounts. https://garage9.com/products/928-engine-speedmount The speedmount is temporary until I can get around to doing the motor mount job; it does make a big difference in vibrations. I also replaced the hatch weather strip/seal, and that might be the best upgrade yet. No more exhaust smell in the cockpit. I've really been thinking about my intentions with this rig...It's a classic and should be cared for, maintained, and appreciated, but it does me no good sitting in the garage collecting dust. It's not an '80 Euro 5-speed nor is it a '94 GT; it's a pretty garden-variety '85, so I've made the conscious decision to make it my daily unless it's snowing out. It took a while to come to that decision. I considered finishing up my work on it (still needs shocks, steering rack work, and the dash pulled) and selling it, but I think I'll keep it and drive the hell out of it. I'll use the one on the left when the weather is nasty. https://black928s.files.wordpress.co..._812.jpg?w=750 Two fickle mistresses. My beloved LSU Tigers won it all last week! I found myself wanting THIS 928, with gold wheels of course. :D https://black928s.files.wordpress.co...2036.jpg?w=750 I need to dig into the dash, but Syncro projects are a priority at the moment. Camping season starts soon... |
Hi Folks,
I haven't visited in a while because work on my Syncro problem child takes priority during camping season. I've had to do a lot of work that I hadn't planned on; such is the life of owning antique German machines. However, occasional work on the 928 continues. I was ecstatic to finally solve my slow drain issue last weekend. By pointing an IR thermometer at all of the relays, a tip I read about in a Rennlist thread, I found that the X-bus and the power window relays were around 25 degrees above ambient. I swapped them out with new relays and the drain is gone. One pesky fuel line is driving me nuts. I asked about that in another thread. On a related note, the "Y" fitting to the evap canister is broken so the fumes are bad after a hot drive...Waiting on a new connector to solve that. I also need to order a new ODO gear from 928srus, then I'm going to remove the cluster and clean it up. It still registers about 10% low across the board. Plans are also coming together to do the motor mounts, shocks, and an intake refresh. That should keep me busy for at least the rest of the year. :) Other than that, I've been saturating the interior with 3M Marine Vinyl restorer and Leather Honey during down times, and otherwise driving the hell out of it. The ultimate social distancing machine. https://black928s.files.wordpress.co...002.jpg?w=1024 Cheers! |
