Relay Clean Up -
Hey Autobahn - One of the output electrical contacts of the several simple +12 volt relays inside your window control unit is often your problem. With the outer housing removed - each of the main relay contacts are visible and can be inspected and easily cleaned. Check the relay coils for a darkened winding or heat damage.
I've successfully used electrical contact cleaner (or alcohol) and then gently drawn a business card type material cut into thin strips through each relay contact to clean any carbon build up. Just a very light touch is all it normally takes and be careful not to distort the geometry of the relay arms. The logic circuitry is pretty tough so as long as the external switches, connector in/out pins and the internal relay contacts are clean - it can come back to life. Good Luck - Michael

Window Controller Tips -
Hey Autobahn - I found a write up and some photos of how the 928 Porsche relays are mounted inside the window control unit. This may help to visualize the location of the relays and their electrical output contacts. VW, Audi and Mercedes had somewhat similar controllers (except for their program logic) and there used to even be some generic replacement parts available. Don't know if this is still true.
