Spare Tire Cover

I have always been less then impressed with the stock spare tire cover.
I just expected better, I'm surprised the designers were satisfied with that cheap quasi-plastic lid.
Most of us make our own, I assume.
Anyway, I whipped this up tonight.

Steel metal over plywood. I may have gone too far in the other direction.

Nice work.

There's a guy on Rennlist that has reproduced them in heavy black plastic, available at a moderate price, so that's an alternate route to go.

Nice job. However I have a sub woofer that fits inside my spare tire so it would not work for my situation.

Jerry Feather he posts here as well. He also does a heavier version of the cowl panel cover for the pit the wipers are in.

I have seen some of his work on the other forum. Does he do a modified upper fan shroud? It sounded interesting, I looked for it but could not find it.

I was searching to see if I had ever posted a thread on this forum about my 928 Spare Tire Covers and I came across this thread. The first plastic item I made for the 928 was the Spare Tire Cover and mine is fully formed as with the original factory items, but I used the cover from my first 87 as the pattern both for the shape of the cover and the forming, although my cover is formed about an eighth inch deeper than the originals.

My Spare Tire Covers are made of 3/16 inch thick black ABS plastic that has a very fine "pebble-like" finish called "hair cell." To date I have made a few hundred of them and they are apparently suitable for any model of the 928. The only issue I have ever had reported is when one guy was trying to install it upside down. It didn't seem to fit.

My Spare Tire Cover is $90 and the S&H is $20 to domestic locations. Send a paypal to my email address with your address and I can put one in the mail.

My Post in this thread apparently caught the attention of one of our fellow Shark owners who is actually right here in river city with me. I hope to make contact with him and become acquainted with him and his 928. jfeather@bresnan.net

Interesting. Post a pic once you're done doing it.
