Pod lights out

I have an '86 928 and the pod lights have gone out. This happened after the alarm went off. I have checked all the fuses for the instrument lights and the interior lights and they seem to be ok. Anyone have any ideas?

Make sure you didn't hit the dimmer switch with your leg. It's on the bottom of the pod, and not everyone knows it's there! (click on the link)

I guessed it was the dimmer (or as the Porsche shop manual calls it the"potentiometer"). I have rotated it and the lights still aren't working. thanks for the info on cleaning and jumping I will try those this weekend.
