starter trouble
Hi all. So here's the trouble. I have a '83 928 5 speed. The other morning I tried to start it to no avail. As I turned the key to ON the car powered up normally, but as I turned the key to engage the starter, all I got was what sounded like a solenoid clicking 3-4 times a second, but no starter engagement. Any ideas? Is it possible for the starter gear to get hung up, so it won't engage? I don't as yet have the woukshop manual, but does anyone have a pic showing the location of the starter?
Thanks, d. |

Even though you say the car is powering up normally, that clicking sound is exactly what you'll hear when your battery has drained too low to start the car.
Pull the battery out, get it tested and charged if necessary. Don't jump start the car: you can fry the fuel injection brain (ECU) that way. |
