CIS Guru's rebuild questions

I have a 1980 euro spec "S" with factory CIS. I'm currently rebuilding the motor. When I took off the air cleaner I curiously pushed on the Sensor plate. I thought it would spring back. it didn't.... It seems like the pivot is corroded or the spring lost tension. I have the manual on CD. It looks like a fairly simple assembly. I was thinking of pulling it apart and checking things out.

Any pit falls I should be aware of?

Anyone have a hunch why the sensor plate is sticking?

When you purchase a rebuilt CIS unit for like $ 1000.00+ What are they doing to rebuild the unit?

What parts are replaced as part of the rebuild?

It's fairly straight forward to pull the unit apart and clean/lube the pivot; you'll need a gasket and want to check the housing for warpage, and there's some small parts that can get away if not careful.

When they rebuild the fuel distributor, all o-rings are replaced as well as the metering piston assembly and the thin seperator plate (if the do every thing right) and adjust the unit. I'd not worry about the actual distributor yet since this sounds like a housing or pivot problem. With no pressure on the system, the plate should show slight resisitance going down, then softly swing back up and make a very light thunk as it hits it's stop; it should actually bounce once- thunk-thunk.

A sensor plate sticking would most likely be either a crudded-up pivot, a warped housing, or the plate rubbing the housing (only sticks when closed or near closed)
