Question Newbe with a couple of questions?

Hi there,

I am new to the 928 world having just purchased my first 928. A 1978 Black on Black with a manual. Anyway I need some ideas for troubleshooting a couple of annoying little problems I’ve encounter.

The first is electrical – the dash guage pod potentiometer dimmer switch isn’t working. Two part question – can I swap it for the potentiometer on the right side of the dash for rotating the headlights that isn’t being used? Also is it hard to replace the dimmer switch if not. I am also looking for a good schematic that might help me confirm that the dimmer switch is indeed faulty before ordering a new one. Any suggestions on a good manual or web site with good diagrams?

The second problem concerns the AC controls. The slide switch is really flaky and requires a lot of fiddling with in order for the AC to actually work. The previous owner seemed to have the magic touch but I’ve only managed to get it to work a couple of times. BTW AC is Blizzard cold when it’s working. Any thoughts?

Other than that I love my new Shark!

Thanks,
Bret

The two potentiometers are different designs. Not sure they are interchangeable. Should be an inexpensive fix, salvage yards should have plenty. The A/c may be a bigger problem. You can get a used head to replace yours or if you want to spend the money a new one. That is probably the only sure fix. 928 International in Anaheim, CA has been my go to guys for used parts. They are really knowledgable. Hope this helps.

the 2 potentiometers are diff
928.613.121.01 for the dash dim
928.613.122.00 for the wiper wash interval

climate control: if it's BLIZZARD cold it's probably getting low on freon, always coldest just before it runs out, you may even see a mist coming out of the vents

your early 78 has a diff climate control than any other year 928, and also has a completely diff vacuum line setup, send me an email address and I can send you the vac line schematic...
would also like to know your vin# for my early car database

Also regarding 928 International? They seem like great folks - spent the better part of 20 minutes on the phone with them and while they can't help me with either problem he suggested taking the A/C controller apart (carefully!) and see if a good cleaning of the contacts will help out.

Regarding the dimmer - the guy suggested that I just bypass it outright and forget about it. Anybody have any thoughts on this option?

Thanks again,
Bret
