Recently I tried to figure out what made my '84 928 run better than my '83. I narrowed it down to the $1.99 Denso Platinum TT plugs. I honestly didn't believe it, but I bought some more Denso TT plugs to try them, and low and behold the '83 runs just like the '84 now. There is a very noticable difference in the amount of power the car has with these plugs and they are not expensive. They must be gapped to 0.40 but they seem to make a 928 run better than any Bosch plug I've ever used. Even the Denso Iridiums don't seem as good as these cheap Denso TT plugs. I would suggest that some of you at least try them. They are now my plug of choice and are usually available in stock at Advance Auto Parts.
I also replaced a defective thermostat which makes the car run as cool as my '84. So I finally got that fixed. ![]() My progress on this street racer includes deletion of A/C compressor, bracket, and front condenser. Deletion of back seats, rear sun visors, sound deadening and rear seat carpets and mats, stereo, stereo amplifier, clock, windshield wipers, trunk hatch latch and mechanism. Deletion of headlight washer system and tank. Here's some photos. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

![]() ![]() The car also has a K&N air filter, and a Jacobs Energy Coil that has worked great thus far in both of my 928s. It also has a 3 inch megaphone exhaust, and sounds pretty mean. If any of you have any suggestions, let me know what they may be. I'm not done with this car and have tons of ideas for it. Eventually the rear seat wells will be used black Porsche carpet and I'm looking for a roll bar for this car.

At least you know what to replace first when you have a problem.

All of this I've done slowly. I do things by trial and error. This old car used to be black as you can see and has been front ended and fixed at least once. My '84 is a nicer car by leaps and bounds, but I bought this car just to build a street racer. No other reason. The headlights and fog lights are staying for night racing. The shark key chain has a small man who pulls out but retracts back into the mouth of the shark. The whole key chain is very light though.

The PO painted the car. All of the black trim is painted over. The rubber between the bumpers, the tow hook caps and all are now guards red. It was most likely a cheap Maaco paint job that I have brought to life with wax and touch up paint. Anyone have any info on the broken windshield wiper filler in the engine compartment? It runs to the tank under the cover in the fender well, but how do I get it out? I've never done that before.

Remove the right front wheel, it will all come together at that point. I believe there are 2 10mm bolts on the engine side then it's just hose clamped on the wheel side. Those are always broken, I replaced mine on both cars. I think 928 Intl is out of them last I checked.

I knew most of the wiper fluid nozzles were broken on 928s I've seen. Believe it or not my '84 still has the orginal nozzle and cap. I think the inside shoot is cracked though. It's still functional though. Thanks MPDano. That's my next project.

Thats the algae tank, as many 928 owners refuse to spray water on their cars just to wash the windshield when driving, so water in the tanks eventually goes bad.

I could see how the tank in that dark area could have some animals living in it.

...it's a bigass tank too. You'll see when you remove the front pass rear panel. This is where I used the Merlin "Simple Green, Hot Water and Gravel" technique to get it all cleaned up.

Like Aquarium gravel. It breaks off all the green and brown algae that in there. Unless you have mine-ET hands, it's an easy way to get the job done. I've done this both my Brake Fluid Reservoir and Washer Tank, as well as my Fuel Tank.

I shot some new photos today after I removed the washer tank and nozzle in the engine bay, cleaned the engine, and replaced the foam carpet with real carpet. Enjoy

I weighed my car today. 3260lbs. I'm hoping some racing seats will drop it to at least the same weight of the 1977 928 with no spoilers. I still have all the original lights in place.

I have aCobra Evolution S race seat for sale $350. It's a little faded, but if you truly want a race seat it's awesome. We bought it for our Lemon car but some of us (fatties) didn't fit. I have a 34 inch waist and it was perfect. No mount

Thanks Pete R. I'll frame it to mind. I'm actually a pretty big guy and haven't been a size 34 in about 8 years. I'm more like a 38 or so. I might be in touch with you when I have some cash on hand though. That's why I'm trying to get as much weight out of the car as possible. I'm too heavy!
I made this chart in the meantime. As tested by magazines: 1977 Porsche 928 3,190 lbs 1978 Porsche 928 3,410 lbs 1979 Porsche 928 3,650 lbs 1981 Porsche 928 3,370 lbs 1982 Porsche 928 3,370 lbs 1983 Porsche 928S 3,365 lbs 1989 Porsche 928S4 3,530 lbs Porsche 928 Club Sport 3,320 lbs Ferrari 308 GTSi 3,250 lbs My 1983 928S 3,260 lbs I'm happy that my '83 is lighter than a 928 club sport.

Wow, I wonder why the 79 is such a pig at 3650?

I'm not sure. It's probably the combination of the automatic transmission, and loads of luxury gadgets in that particular car. All of these were tests done by car magazines. So they are the weight of one specific car of that year. That particular '79 was probably owned by Scarface and actually did have scanners to pick up flying saucers. Maybe it had a lady tiger in the passengers seat. I'm not sure.
