Question Source for a longer battery ground strap?

Previous owner put a Bosch group 48 battery in my 83, and it seems a bit short compared to the battery box. This leaves the battery in the middle of the box so the hold down clamp doesn't reach and the positive side is pulled in a couple inches just to make the ground strap reach.

Cars in the shop for body work so I can't measure what it has or take it out and run around with it, so if anybody knows the length that would help too. I've seen a 14" for a VW, and 19" on ebay, but I am guessing it might need closer to 24".

For reference its a flat braided cable, about 4 gauge, with a battery post clamp on one end, pvc insulation, and I think a round lug on the other end.

Thanks.

I believe that several different straps were used thru the model run; don't know know the specs, but perhaps one from a differnt year will work.
These type cables are used in marine and farm applications as well, maybe searching from that direction??

notch the battery box lid, put whatever length cable you want in there. nobody will see it.

PCA concours judges don't even look that deep.

Put the correct battery in it.

Take the slack out of the positive cable, pulling it into the battery box.

Put a motorcycle battery in it---you're constantly harping about trying to make your ride faster---there's 50 pounds right there!!!

You'll probably take months to decide on this one, too, unless the CARB NAZIS come after you for this as well................

Some look so deep they should have on rubber gloves instead of white.

Its a ground strap, someplace will have one two inches longer. I asked Jim while I was at 928Intl if they had any longer ones, and he said no. The rear of the battery box stayed the same, the length only changed in the front of the box so the ground strap may be the same part for all years. Only 928 specific one I found was $65, and that isn't gonna happen.

I'll try a truck or a boat place, then a scrap wire joint I know.

Take your old one to an auto parts store or a battery/alternator/starter repair shop. Both of these places will have it. A marine supply store will have a few also.

BTW the battery is a Group 48 which is what everyplace I have checked shows as the correct size for a 82 928.

I wish I could grab the strap out and take it with me, even measure and it leave it, but the times I could take it out without disrupting the work being done on it didn't match up with the times that I wasn't already late to get to some other place. Maybe today.

I'll just measure it when it goes back to the body shop tomorrow after the stereo install is done. Good stereo shops are just too busy for special requests unrelated to the work. Its bad enough they are taking out a 24 year old Clifford keypad system, keeping the factory alarm and adding a keyless entry remote, plus adding a new head unit and replacing the speakers behind the early flush mount door panels without any cutting, and taking rear seats etc out for the two rears.

At least I "hope" they are really busy and not just working on my car for 3 days. YIPES.
