Volt meter either at max or min - no in between.

More electrical issues (to no one's surprise!) On my the voltage meter needle is pegged at maximum charge when initially started and after 5 minutes or so of running, needle drops to zero. There is never a reading in between. Alternator is charging at just over 13.5 volts consistently and never have a problem with charging system other than the guage.

Verify with a good meter that nothing "funny" is really going on, otherwise proceed as indicated in other posts, grounds and contacts. My 84 releasing the pod and bonking it up and down a few times has restored normal functions.

Bad regulator on the Alternator can also do that, and would need fixing ASAP, so check with a good meter maybe at the jump post.

The alternator and regulator are working fine - no actual charging problems at all. Reading off the instrument panel is inaccurate so I think I'll remove the pod and check the connection points as well as the grounds. Should do this regardless check on a few things, one of them being the trip odometer not operating. Will get the gear first so I'm not doing this more than once (hopefully!). Car was just purchased in February so I am working through all the kinks and most are electrical (surprise, surprise).
Thx for your input.

Odometer problem is something back by the tranny (from the interior rear of the 928) isn't it? Mine works so I haven't looked into it.

My electrical plan is to work from easy to access to hard to access and clean and goop everything as I go. The idea being that I don't want to be killing myself over some goofy comes and goes issue upside down elbow deep in the dash when its a dirty relay socket in the CE panel.

Most, if not all, of the issues I have seen posted anywhere regarding odometers revolve around the $25.00 gear in the speedo. That doesn't mean that the drive from the tranny to the speedo is infallible, but my speedo works fine so I'm thinking that the problem is more localized in the speedometer vs. between the speedo and the tranny.
