Intake Sensor Question
Please see the attached picture for detail.
Just purchased, 1985 928 S. On the intake, their is an electrical connection (unconnected) that I'm guessing is to some type of sensor. Can anyone identify and tell me where the wire might be that goes to it. I looked around and could not figure out where the wire that should be connected to this might be. Michael ![]()

That's a diagnostic sensor connection. Normally nothing connected to it.

What can the computer tell you once hooked up?
On thing I need to examine is why it won't idle? Could be a lot of things, but I was wonder what they programmed in in 1985 to be able to read. I'm actually quite happy to hear it has one. I didn't think they would have one in 85. Michael

I believe you get a TDC reference from that connector. Not sure if anything else. On one connector in the engine compartment you short a couple of pins together to disable the closed loop function to set idle mixture. Seems like that plug was up front though. I don't have my '86 anymore so it's been a while. You should get a set of shop manuals either the book version if you can find any, or the CD version. Check Greg Nichols tips site too.

85/86 brains don't have a "diagnostic" port, but the newest version of the SharkTuner has a box that plugs in between the engine and brain and it will datalog engine status so new chips can be made revising air/fuel etc.
Maybe Porsche dealers used to have something even fancier?

The owner included a CD that is probably the manuals. Haven't looked yet.
He also included a couple of chips from RPM Performance. I haven't researched them yet to find out what they do, and if they are a good thing or bad. Michael
