Rusty flywheel, last main part for project car.

I got the last "major" parts today that I know of to put an 83 Euro S AT motor into my US 83 5 spd, a pair of 85 exhaust manifolds and a slightly rusty US 85 5 spd flywheel. Shop I got it from had the flywheel surfaced when they bought a complete motor, but its been outside for about a year I think.

Should I have much concern over the surface rust?

I wiped it down with an oily rag and other than the rust it seems fine, given that I have no clue what fine might be.

I've seen a lot worse on brake rotors that were still on a car and being used (just parked a few months), so I don't know how to judge. Here are a couple of picts.

Hmmmm, I thought the torque converter bolt up to the flywheel and none of that surface is actually meshing with anything?

The Euro motor I found is from a AT car, so it has an AT flywheel now, but to put it in my 83 5 spd I needed to find a LH toothed 5 spd flywheel to replace it. I can't use my 83 flywheel because its for a L jetronic.

BTW this was all a surprise to me too. Fortunately the 84/86 Euro and 85/86 US bellhousings are all compatible.

On the AT the flywheel has the flexplate bolted to it, then the torque tube with the TC back at the tranny.

That flywheel wasn't resurfaced. If it was you wouldn't see the imprint of the pressure plate contact area. That would be ground off. Bring it to the local clutch and brake shop and have it ground.
