Oil Catch Can
I am installing a S/C and am wondering if anyone would have a diagram or pics of how they installed a Oil Catch Can.
Thanks, Warren |

Warren,
Have you looked at the set up at 928 Motorsports? http://www.928motorsports.com/parts/oilcontrol.php I will be running this on both cars and will also vent the filler cap or tube. Sorry I don't have any pictures.

Red,
I did look at that a bit ago during my research but the pics are for a earlier MY and I was hoping that someone with a more similar intake would have pics that I could use. Thanks, Warren |

Knowing what year 928 you have and what S/C kit you are installing would be a big help.

Here is something I have been looking at. They are not too clear on the exact mounting/plumbing for our cars but if you read the details of the product PDF it seems straight forward. I get a little oil in my intake/air cleaner box on my 16v, looks like this replaces the factory separator can, it just needs the additional check valve on the oil return line. The rest of the plumbing is just like the factory on my car. The mounting might need to fabricated/adjusted to hold the new can.

not only do you need a catch/return can on your 16V, but a baffle (plate) under the oil fill canister.
If I remember correctly, the GT/GTS had a baffle plate from the get go, but you can also get the oil control kit from Carl @ 928 Motorsports, to use in conjuctino with the Provent unit. I use the kit from Carl on mine, but due to a cracked piston it's not enough to control all of the crankcase pressure/oil from getting into the intake.....with a good engine, I suspect using these two items together will help immensely----- -----------

The instructions for the 928motorsports oil control kit ( baffle ) mentions having to tap into case. I am a little hesitant about tapping into the motor. Even though it is a rather simple tap I would rather use the existing plumbing. I am curious as to how well it solves the oil problem on its own. Combining the two systems is a great idea but would be a little costly. Without the baffle I figure the Provent system would still soak up a lot of oil and just require a filter change every so often. At this point I am still researching.

I do not remember a tap in to the "case". what I do remember is that you access a cam tower plug, and then attach a 90 degree elbow/nipple to attach the oil drain hose. if you cam tower plug hole is not threaded, then you would tap the hole to install the elbow/nipple fitting.
I suggest you consult Carl for further instruction on his kit. --------------

What year is your 928? I have an early '78. I am not sure if my plug is threaded or not. I just assumed since most 16V aftermarket parts are designed for later model 928S versions. I will email them and ask the specifics. Anyone else use this kit and can comment on how well it solved the oil in the air box issue.

mine is a 1980 Euro 4.5L 229 hp M28/09.
I have seen 16V cam towers with screw in plugs (use an Allen wrench to remove/install), and rubber -press in plugs. I have several other engines (4.5L US M29/14, 4.7L Euro 300hp M28/11, and 5.0L hybrid Euro 16V), but all have the screw in plugs in the cam towers. I do not know if the holes for the rubber -press in plug cam towers are threaded or not. Check with Carl and he can give you better guidance on his kit. ---------------------------
