928S Auxilliary air pump - where can I get one?

The bearings of my Auxilliary air-pump are shot, leaving me with 2 questions:

1 - is it possible to replace the bearings without replacing the whole pump?
2 - If I need a new pump, any idea where I can get it? I've searched for it here, but can't find the pump. Part number would be great if anyone has it.

Frustrating thing is I see it in page 13-17 of the workshop manual, called the "auxilliary air pump", but I can't find the part for sale anywhere.

any ideas would be great.

thanks,

Pauwl

I think I found it: OEM-92811301700

It's listed as a SMOG PUMP, but when you search on Pelican Parts you can't find it. Going via the air filter then, you get to the parts diagram, from there you click on the pump itself, and the SMOG PUMP gets selected.

So only question 2 remains then: can I replace the bearings without replacing the $900 pump?

thanks.

air pump = smog pump
if you aren't required to have it in your region I'd ditch it, just sucks hp and doesn't do that much on the early cars
as for replacement, I don't know anyone who's swapped the bearings themselves, but you could get a good used unit from 928International for WAY less than $900

What I have been told on other cars, which may or may not be correct or apply is that disconnecting the belt and leaving the pump on the car will allow it to freeze up so it won't work in the future.

Wow do I hate the Calif smog nazi's , looking under my Mustang the other day I noticed the guys that installed my catted X welded in a line for the air injection even though my new OBDII style cats don't use it, because in CALIF its illegal to remove ANY of the smog equipment even if it isn't used.

you can't just disconnect the pump, cause the belt that drives it also drives the fan, and the adjustment is on the air pump for that belt.

if you can locate a Euro idler pulley (which goes in place of the air pump--it has a belt adjuster), that is the way to go if you are not going to go further and install electric fans.

HOWEVER-------

I am removing my air pump and it's assorted piping, filter housing and such......

I would sell it for a whole lot less than the $900 quoted above.

Send me a PM if you're interested.

thanks--rhj

and yes, I can ship to France easily---the wife works for a freight forwarder based in France, and ships oil field related materials there (and on to Algeria) every week.

let me know if I can help with your pump issues....
