Consol removal

There is a mess of after market wires that go under the consolee of my '78 5 speed 928. I can't see how the console comes off. I looked at the exploded view in the Porsche parts manual but all it shows are 2 screws per side that appear to hold only the rug panels in place. Either I'm getting old, stupid or need new glasses. Anyone have an idea. Many thanks all.

There are bolts on the sides as well. If I remember correctly, you need to take the glove box out to get to the bolt on that side.

One in the vent maybe too?

I'm too sleepy right now to search for a good write up, but they exist.

Previous owners often put a few "extra" screws in to hold those carpet panels on, so wiggle carefully when you think you have them all. Once the carpet side panels are off and the radio maybe pulled out, you may find that is adequate access. Package tray may also need to come out.

Yep, I forgot about those. Pull your center vent out and you will see the ones he is talking about.

One bolt inside glove box on the left. Its behind the rubber cap. 8MM hex head.
Two bolts behind the comb vent on the top. 8MM hex head.
Two phillips head screws on the bottom left steering column side.
Two phillips head screws on the glove box lid side. One is under the glove box lid mounting bracket. Remove the GB lid mounting bracket 3 phillips head.
Two phillips head screws on each side near the switches.
