Track Control Arm, Axles, Brakes etc. What first?

I was hoping to delay the next step of what seems to be a LOOONG list of repairs I need to do.

My brake pad lights came on yesterday, so now I'm going to have to do something about them.

The question is what exactly though. I know I have to replace discs as well.
The Porsche garage told me I need to replace my Track control arms, and Axles at the front as well.
Shocks haven't been replaced in ages. When I hit joints in the road it feels like just the rubber of the tire & the comfort of the seat is keeping me from feeling the full jolt.

I wonder though, they didn't give great advise on other things (need new horn - needed new fuse).

How can I tell how bad it is?

I have cracked boots.
The tires are wearing faster on the inside v.s. the outside. They were aligned when replaced. I think the old set also wore faster on the inside.

The questions:

1) What do I need to look at to determine if I really do need new axles & track arms?
2) Can I do things in stages? If so, what are they? I'm thinking:
- brakes & disks (front)
- brakes & disks (back)
- track control arm & shocks front
- shocks back
- new tires all round.

Is there any sense to this? My projects need to be completed in max. 6 hours work (giving temperature conditions at the moment). It's my daily drive, so I can't be without it. (Couldn't be without it, even if it wasn't )

What are track control arms? Is it the tie rod ends of the steering rack? I would guess that those tie rod ends and the ball joints on the lower control arm would be most likely to be worn but fortunatly they are simple to purchase and replace.

I do have to teplace the tie rod and ball joints as well, planned to do that at the same time as the Track Control Arms.

Does it matter if I do it tie rods/ ball joints one week and the others another?

Shocks resist movement of the suspension, less movement means more force from a bump, not less is felt when they operate properly. When worn out what is most noticeable to me is how long in time the car wiggles after a bump. Modern shocks last a very long time, with failure typically being a leak at the seal so the internal oil leaks out. Most of the time that means the shock either works "ok" or almost not at all.

For the tires I suspect bad alignment. The 928 must not be jacked up within a minimum of 20 miles prior to alignment to allow the suspension to settle, and many places routinely jack up all cars during alignment to check some of the suspension components.

I have all the parts you need, basically two complete suspension assemblies from two cars.

Send me a PM or e-mail me with a list of parts.

yes, I do have brake parts as well, from my Euro. the front calipers were in good shape when removed and the pads were nearly new.

let me know......

thanks-

Russ

Russ,

before I get going I want to figure out what batches I need to do the work in.
I'll be putting in new pads & discs I get locally I think.

I need to figure out how to see if I need new arms etc., then in which batches I do the work, then I'll go and get the stuff.

It's too much work to do in one go outside on the front lawn at -3 degrees centigrade.

Any ideas on what stuff needs to be grouped together into a 'job'?
