anyone actually seen or know anything 1st hand about this GTS?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1993-Black-on-Black-Porsche-928-GTS-Auto-NO-RESERVE_W0QQitemZ230216946444QQcmdZViewItem?hash=i tem230216946444

I know, I know, it's been run on Ebay probably at least 10 times now, but this time they've just finally given up and gone NO RESERVE. What it will actually bring on it's final dance is still up for grabs, but what I would like to know is, has anyone seen, driven, or know anything special about this particular GTS that isn't already known?

Okay, this car obviously flunks the Carfax test due to either an odometer rollback, or better yet my personal guess, an odometer replacement without any real verification. Either way, it has an additional 15,000 miles on it if you really study the Carfax report well. So with that issue alone, I'm not to scared yet. But is there something else about this car that is not mentioned in the ad, but is much more serious of an issue that I should be made aware of?

Just from what I can see, the rear muffler is really goofy looking and not OEM, the original Porsche phone is gone, the original in-dash CD-2 is long gone, it's missing one painted center cap, and has been for sale on Ebay for nearly 5 years straight now without a sale even at some seriously low numbers. Why?

Please, someone with any real personal knowledge about this car tell me the real story of exactly what's up. I mean, at $12K is it still a loser? Does it run, knock, leak, slip, been repainted at Maaco, did somebody die in it while being on fire or what?.......anything, anyone?

Thanks in advance, Todd

If you buy it, I happen to have one single painted center cap.

Ahh, my biggest concern has now been solved! Thank you sir, you'll be the first one I call when I have her towed home from Houston with it's broken block I was never made aware of!

Todd,
My memory is sketchy but a number of people went to see the car and it appeared to have been in a wreck at some time.
I am sure it was discussed on Rennlist in detail a couple of years ago - maybe do a search for Houston GTS.

Hi Todd,
Did a search and it has been discussed and looked at by 928 people over the last 4 to 5 years.
Been for sale for that long.
Salvage title and very bad rebuild are the main points knowbody wants to buy it.
Hope That helps.
Roger

Indeed it does Roger and thank you very much for your help! This one is now officially off the Low Miler wish list. But damn, I was just gonna keep this one around as a driver/beater for the wife to bang into trash cans and the edges of the garage with. Thereagain, this may the perfect candidate for that!

Only if nobody else bids.

Easy bet the price goes up to silly for the real condition, then the deal falls through if the high bidder is smart enough to check out the history.

Google searches don't show older messages on rennlist anymore, so none of the old history might show up.

Maybe they are two different cars - I may have been thinking of another car - sorry for the confusion.

Hey Roger, are you in Dallas or Houston?

Roger is in Double Oaks, TX, which I think is technically southern Oklahoma

Its near Dallas.

Somebody who isn't banned could do a search with the VIN on rennlist, and I am sure it was discussed, the car belongs to the dealer I think.

This Vehicle's Glossary
Below are the specific definitions for events that appear in this vehicle's report.
More information is available in the full AutoCheck glossary.

Term Section Location Definition

Loan/Lien Vehicle Use and EventCheck A loan/lien is the legal right to take and hold or sell the vehicle of a debtor as security or payment for a debt. Normally, a vehicle will have a lien due to a loan or unpaid repair bill against the vehicle.
Corrected Title Vehicle Use and EventCheck The State DMV has issued a corrected title for the vehicle.
Emission/Safety Inspection Vehicle Use and EventCheck An approved emission testing station has inspected the vehicle to measure the amount of pollutants the vehicle emits into the environment.
Storm Area Registration/Title Vehicle Use and EventCheck Storm registration/title refers to information reported to us that a vehicle was registered or titled prior to the storm event in FEMA designated storm damaged area. Storm events can include hurricanes, floods and other natural disasters. While a vehicle may have been reported as titled or registered in an affected area, it may not have been damaged by the storm, or it may have been moved to safety during the storm. We recommend a thorough professional inspection of the vehicle to confirm no storm damage.

Thanks to everyone for the help, but I've just purchased my latest concours, and it's certainly not this one. This sketchy '93 GTS goes against everything I look for in my cars and to many sacrafices would have had to have been made to actually buy it. Even for a personal driver, because someday I'd end up having to sell it and boy would that be ugly. So forget about it. I think I'll be alot happier with my new silver, 20,000 mile '91 S4, thank you! Freakin' sweet!

MPDano,
Do you have an active AutoCheck account? Would you be willing to run a VIN for me?

Thanks
Mike

Mike,

I've got an active Carfax account if that would help. Just PM me the VIN # and I'll forward you a copy of the report.......

Todd,
I am not sure if Carfax will work. The car I want to run is a 1980 model and it has the shorter VIN. I know in Autocheck that you can put in zeros before the VIN and it will work, not sure about Carfax. Do you know if it will work?

No, your actually right, it won't work on Carfax. I didn't know it was a pre-17 digit VIN #. However, I didn't know that by adding zeros on Autochex that it would work either. So with that being said, go ahead and PM the VIN # anyway and I'll try the zero thingy on Carfax, just for ****s and giggles, if nothing else.....

Carfax and autocheck are easy to "test" go to the main www.carfax.com page and enter the VIN for a free records check.

Blanks have worked for me using autocheck, and not on carfax. Zeros didn't work just now on carfax. Zeros didn't work on autocheck when I tried just now either.

*** Don't post in public threads asking for people to run a VIN, send a PM or email, otherwise Pelican could get a nasty letter from Carfax.

That sucks. I have done the "test" before and it came back with 13 records. This was a month or so ago. I have no idea why it will not work now. Autocheck must have changed something.

Thanks anyway.
