Steering column movement question?

If youre sitting in drivers seat and can get some movement in steering column up and down by mayby 1/2 inch, what would cause this? Its not easy to move but can be done by lifting...??? I havent crawled under dash or anything so just checking thoughts? Regards guys!

There is a paddle below the pod that locks and unlocks the up down movement, check that first.
