Any ideas for the POS side lights on a Euro?
The lights on the sides of a Euro are starting to annoy me, even the factory light behind each front wheel is a POS. Any ideas on improving them or removing them?
This one has lip about 1/8" thick making it stick out from the fender that much instead of being flush. ![]() This one needs to find the trailer it was meant to go on. ![]() |

The original Euro markers I like the least. I am thinking something flush, not sure which I want to keep, 3 are a bit much. I looking for some different ideas.

I could offer you clear replacement lenses and black housings, but they have exactly the same shape as the originals.
The Euros don't have side markers - they are side flashers. Yours were probably converted to light up like side markers during US Federalization.

I just painted the tacked-on federalization lights to match the car, in order to make them less visible. The idea was that it was to be a temporary fix, hide the hideous lights until I could get the holes welded and the car repainted.
I'm such a cheap bastard; 7 years later I'm still driving it around this way! Oh well, it works. And it's dirt cheap- black krylon spray paint from Home Depot. N ![]() |

I like the Euro side turn signal lenses the least too. Not sure if they surface mounted them so they'd be even more visible but the US markers are nicer shapes and profiles.
I'm surprised they didin't use the same lenses for both applications. Some of the US versions seem to be virtually flush and some seem to stick out 1/8" or so as you note. Installation differences? Alan

Nice ride Normy, exact color as I want mine. Although, those front markers need to go. If your handy with glass bondo, you could remove it fill it, sand it and paint it. So those Euro or US side markers are the turn sigs? None of the fronts flash?

I don't think in practical terms we have any restrictions, remove them, move them, change them anyway we like.
Changing the fronts to white corning lights might be nice. The side markers, Euroness or not, I think have to go. Changed at the very least. |

We went to the Getty museum today, and my wife drove home so I was free to look at all the marker lights different cars had on the freeway. Most newer cars have nothing, or just a inch of wraparound from the front lights. Trucks and vans typically did have some kind of square or rectangular markers, but I didn't see anything I liked much. One Jetta had a small oval light behind the front wheels.
I'm thinking of walking through a couple mall or supermarket parking lots with my camera and see what I find. |

Yeah, I do the same thing when I drive around too. I also see that most cars don't have side markers. I do like the BMW one, it's kinda triangular in shape.

I just tried some google and ebay searches, didn't find the Jetta I was looking for, but some looked interesting. No idea on size, practicality etc., just looking for shapes for now.
