New member question
Hello, new member here. Have owned a 1979 928 5 speed for a couple of months now. It is Dk. Green, Brown interior, has stock 16" phone dials, 159,000 miles, and so far has been trouble free except for some annoying electrical problems.
Most immediate is that starting last week (I drive it to work daily) when I turn on the lights, I always get High Beams. The only difference to this car is it has Bosch H-4 lenses. I located the relay, and it clicks each time the lights are turned on, but short of removing the High Beam fuses, not sure where else to look? Checked the bulbs, and both low-high elements work. I ran a forum search with no similar question found. Thanks for your time. |

Probably the relay is stuck (default position is low-beam) or possibly the column stalk switch is fried. If you know someone who would let you swap relays you might try that (78/79 only). Otherwise try the following - remove the hi/lo relay (XIV) and check to see if the terminal 86 to that relay switches high to low with the columns stalk when the lights are on headlights with the ignition on. if it does - you need a new relay - if it doesn't you need a new column stalk switch. you can also test the relay out of the car
- test for connectivity between terminals 30 & 87 if you have it then the relay is stuck - you should have connectivity between 30 & 87a. Alan
