Need some very experienced 928 eyes to check out a 928 for me in San Diego

Calling all San Diego 928'ers!

I'm in critically serious need of an exceptionally experienced 928 enthusiast with some fairly vast 928 technological background to check out a '93 GTS for me near San Diego by either this weekend or Monday at the absolute latest! I already have a non-refundable deposit on the car, but have yet to see anything but alot of pictures and have had to totally rely on the owner for it's supposedly mechanically perfect condition. Admitedly, the car does look to be perfect and it's service history is up to date, verifiable and complete. However, the deposit is non-refundable after Monday as the seller is in his 70's and has once been the victim of identity theft. Therefore, he does not want to give out any of his personal bank information for a full payment wire transfer (the way I'm used to doing business). He want's nothing but a certified check (as he did for the deposit) and for the check to absolutely, positively have cleared any and all possible time restrictions before he ever releases the car to me. Hell, that could be 30-60 days, couldn't it? Anyway, I have until Monday or I lose my deposit and the car is once again listed for sale. Crazy? Probably, but I do want this GTS.

Anyway, I would prefer to not have to fly all the way from Indy to San Diego, only to look at a car, say it's good, and then just turn right back around and fly home again without the car. So, I will gladly pay for someone from the San Diego area to go and check out this GTS for me about 40 miles away in San Marcos. All I need is a thumbs up and I'll overnight the seller the remaining balance. My only other option is, if no one can do this for me, is to do what I said I'd prefer not to. And that would be one long ass day only to leave with nothing, regardless!

So, I'm calling on anyone from San Diego that's up to the challenge to not only help me out, but to check out and drive one sweet ass GTS! Like I said, I'll gladly pay for your time and trouble, I've done it before.

Thanks in advance!

Todd

P.S. If you can do this, please call me asap at 317-506-3022 or e-mail me at partysover@sbcglobal.net.

When you decide to retire from this, would you please teach me how to find these so damn quick.

Wish I could be of assistance.

Thanks, and I know you of all people truly would help me if you could. But with regards to the "quick" thingy, it's never, ever that easy, trust me! True story; out of the some 60 928's I've bought and sold over the last 10 years now, not a single one, and I mean not a single one, was ever what I would consider to be "perfect" when I arrive to pick it up. They're always advertised that way, but not one has ever been, believe me! And some are really, really far from it too!

I always plan on the car taking me 30 days to make it perfect. Sometimes a little less, most of the time, alot more.

The hunt and the kill are the best part, but they're getting harder and harder to find the really good starters nowdays. With each passing year, it becomes that much more difficult to find the low mileage 5 speeds that Willhoit hasn't already been called on before they're even advertised to the public. But it's still one hell of a great hobby!

Todd

Hi Todd,

Replied to your email. I sent you some info on contacting someone who lives in the North County San Diego. Too bad you didn't tell me yesterday since I work in Carlsbad (real close to SM). If the contact can't check it out for you due to short notice, I can probably check it out Monday after work since I drive right through San Marcos. Too many family things to do on the weekends. PM the addy.

Leo

Thanks Leo!

Your suggestion to use Greg was awsome and he's actually checking it out for me today. I should have all the answers I need to wire full payment.......or not, by tomorrow. Though I would seriously doubt the latter.

Thanks again, Todd

A huge thank you goes out to mrGST for assuming the roll of my hands on eyes with regards to the GTS in question. He was most thorough and the car checked out perfectly! And he's as nut's as I am about details!

Anyway, thanks goes out to Randy V for also accepting my request to take a looksee, though it had already been handled. Thank you Randy for the offer though.

I hope to see both of you guys when I'm out there to pick her up in a week or so.

Regards, Todd

Absolutely! And by the way, I just spoke with the owner a little bit ago and he said you were a pleasure to deal with. He also asked if I knew what kind of car you drove up in? He said it was a very nice BMW M5! Excellent choice! Well played, sir.

Todd

Awe damn, you should have let me know Randy V could have been there. I was looking forward to going toe to toe with him

Yeah, Glen (MrGST) is a real stand up guy. An articulate one he is. Glen, see what you could have if you just make that hole in your garage
