How to refurbish black '91 S4 rear spoiler

I have had to change my rear spoiler as the holding bolts came loose. I bought a second-hand one, but it is slightly faded in parts. Does anyone have any suggestions as to the best way to restore it to "all black"?

My second question is - was the original S4 rear spoiler hinged so it could be lifted to gain access to the rear screen wipers? The spoiler on my car was not, and neither is the replacement I got from a scrapyard (off a '91 S4). However, the 928 repair manual has drawings of a hinge, and my local official Porsche garage also told me that the spoiler should have a hinge. Does anyone know?

Curious, how much did you pay for the wing from the scrapyard?

The early S4 wings were hinged and adjustable, but I think by 1988 MY (maybe late 1987) they were fixed.

As far as the "folding wing" issue, as they're un-technically called I guess, they were only found on early '87 models and discontinued by mid-year '87 928's.

you can use any of the "tire shine" products, but as you probably know, this is usually just a temporary fix. 20 years of sunshine and chemical fallout is hard on anything rubber......

short of just putting up with this, you might decide to paint it the same color as your 928 body........

There is an outstandng product on the market called Forever Black, which you can use to re-dye the spoiler. I used Forever Black on the black plastic exterior trim pieces on my 1990 Corvette ZR-1 with outstanding results (i.e. it actually lasted).

I'll second that nomination! Very good product with a long lasting, return to new look.

Cost of 2nd hand rear spoiler

I paid £125 + VAT + delivery, approx £165 in total for the rear spoiler. It is in pretty good condition apart from one or two minor scratches.
