A few more pictures of the final installation and the old pickup. Note the large tube feeding the pump. Additionally, look at the old factory pickup sock and how it has been drawn down in the area where it is weak. Imagine this thing drawing closed under the flowrate of this larger pump. The restriction in the new system is likely less than 1/2 of the old. Upon startup the pump was much queiter than before. Cross sectional area is well over 70% more than before. Additionally the brass screen really reduced the drawing requirements for the pump. The fuel can now pressure feed the pump puch easier than before.

I'm sure the fuel system will be much less stressed with these recent changes. All in all I think it cost me about $300 to pull it all off. The pump control unit was purchased used and I bought a new pump pickup and started from there. The fact that the pump is quieter says a lot. I'm sure this pickup sock is the original in the car...those rarely get serviced. I can tell you the new sock I bought was less restrictive than this older one as is has been run for quite some time now.
