Why the trim on the door window is a pain
The bottom front corner piece of the door window trim looks like its attached with some rivet type things.

Yes, mine is the same way. I was wondering about this yesterday. I thought it was a fix after a crash of some sorts. This is why 928 Intl wouldn't sell me a used one but only new. Tom said that they are destoyed when they are removed.

Looks like the door needs to be apart to put it in too. No wonder so many cars have this part messed up, or glued on.
*** sorry on the double post, but the forum glitched on the first one so no content was uploaded, and I couldn't even edit the message or delete it. |

Whenever I get to the trim part of my restoration, I'm gonna glue it on. Plenty of stong enough glues out there today without having to rivet them on.

Glue at best is going to "sit" on the rest of the window trim, the rivets pull the corner in tight. Maybe some kind of clip could be attached to the inside of the window to grab the non mushroomed end of a rivet?

I don't think there is that much tension there. I would probably use some epoxy, and put a clothes pin on the corner. Depending on the dry time on the Epoxy, I am sure this would hold it perfectly. IMHO
Oh, remove clothes pin after the Epoxy drys, otherwise your 928 will look Redneck.

I am not in front of my car (at work now), but if Mike says the door needs to be taken apart, then doing it as Porsche intended would suck. If it's just removing the weatherstrip and riveting, then that would be a different story.
