Purolator Filter inside Gas Tank?
Hi all!
I finally took my gas tank out of my 81 Euro 4.5 and was in the process of cleaning out the gunk when I removed the part that screws into the tank (part that connects to the fuel pump) and on the inside there is a Purolator Filter (part # PM 4199). Anyone know more of this? I can't seem to seperate it from the assembly. Where can I find a replacement or should I just clean this one?

The one inside the tank (screen). Yikes, $53! Mine seems to be fine but needs a cleaning. How do you seperate it? I will take a pic of it.

Arrows point to the hose clamps. Let me know the size and I can check to see if I have any laying around at work that size. If you undo those clamps, does everything from there on down look like one piece?

Thats the question Raymond. I am not sure since I don't have a reference pic of the screen filter by itself.

The filter is part of the pump assembly and as far as I know is not a seperate part.
The intank pump 928 608 013 00 is $142.99. As far as ROW PET fitted until 79 though I have seen them in later cars. If the pump is running well with no noise I would clean the existing pump. Run it backwards as well to release any crud.

Ah, so the whole deal is a pump assembly. Makes sense since it wont come apart. I wonder why they needed 2 pumps to get fuel to the engine.

Usually if the external pump starts playing up then the internal is toast.
In your case it looks OK but only you will know by running it. It should be smooth and just have a low pitched hum.

Thanks Rog. I'll check it out in a few. Normal 12V, correct?

Easy guess why the intank pump might be found on some newer 928's, used tanks.
Here is a pict of just the screen on a pumpless. ![]() |

The tank in my 81 928 had yellow writing like you see on used parts. Maybe my 928 doesn't need this in tank pump. What year did the in tank pumps start being included?

If you have a pump, and it works, use it, if it doesn't I would try a screen and skip the pump.
