928 not reving
Hi im in the process of buying a european 1982 928 4.7ltr auto, it has one problem, it will not rev, the owner mechanic says it could be a fuel pressure regulator, any ideas? cheers, Darren uk

does it idle?
|
I belive so, im going to buy the car in a week or so, got it really cheap, through a buddy who runs a porsche workshop, original 90,000 miles full service history etc, £1100 ($2200) and he is throwing in a 3lt 911 sc motor strippedown for my 911, so ill run it up when im home

I assume it has L-Jet? Seems like a good place to start is vacuum lines..if any of them are original they are certainly rotten...and probably leaking....and the fuel pressure regulators are connected to vacuum lines.

82 Euro is the older style injection, CIS or Kjet. There are two models a 4.5L and the S with 4.7 and 300 hp. Does not rev could be anything, if its the fuel distributor or WUR it gets expensive fast.
Whats the motor ID or the VIN? |
I had a Celica back 20 years ago that suddenly wouldn't rev: was the fuel filter. Just a thought.
There's an '88 Countach down the street at a shop that wouldn't rev: made 220rwhp on the dyno. CDI igntion was fried: replaced: made 425rwhp. :) |
No real point in getting too focused on revving, look over the whole car and make a plan for restoring it.

the vin no. is wpozzz92zcs841106 hope this helps, here are some piccies.

Very nice, thats a Euro S, 300 hp, and no sunroof? Very nice. Is it a 5 spd or auto?
This is a car well worth doing it right, good luck. |
Thats good to know, the car is an auto, white leather. Are these quick, only driven my 3ltr SC 911?
|
Yes they are quick and fast.
|
Great, just need to get the old girl home, and sort out the engine problem, but first i must finish my new kitchen install and my oil pipes on my 911, thanks for the advise.

There are some inline screens after the fuel filter that are designed to protect the CIS unit. I haven't a clue as to where they are, but they do clog up, and can be the cause of your problem. David Tassineri over at Rennlist dealt with this last year, he could probably tell you what they found.

Cheers, this will help in my quest

Cant beleive ive just bought another fuel guzzler, especially as we pay £6 ($12) a gallon

Cant belive ive just bought another fuel guzzler, especially as we pay £6 ($12) a gallon, but its weekend fun.

Check the easy stuff first, if it is not reving then perhaps the linkage is disconnected at the throttle body.
|
When you get it home, first thing I would do is clean out the fuel system, drain the tank etc.
