Collectors edition
What is a numbered collectors edition 928. Saw it on a auction that someone had and he claimed that he's 928 was not a numbered collectors edition. Don't know about this but curious?

A series of Weissach editions included luggage and a numbered plate for the dash. I think it was 1982 from what I've read before. You might search that on the net and see what you find.

A Weissach without the badge on the dash and the special luggage is just a plain old 82.
Referring to a 928 as a collectors car 99.99% of the time means the seller has no clue about the 928, car collecting, or anything but used car sales. Rare collectible 928's are sold as scrap a couple times a week. True collectible cars don't last 30 minutes on the open market. |

There was also the Jubilee edition. It was a burgundy color with a burgundy / Ivory cloth interior. I actually like these much better than the Weissach cars.

Jubilee was I think outside the US, Weissach US. Sometimes I think whats rare is anything that isn't red or black and runs well.

The Weissach was much more than just a badge and luggage.
They were suposed to be a limit edition of 205 cars but we know this was exceeded. One of mine is number 210 and another in Texas is 219. The Weissach option was a $6000 option back in 1982 so not cheap by any means. Full two tone special leather interior. First US car to have front and rear spoilers as standard. Mostly cosmetic I agree but very special in my book as I have two of them. The Jubilee was the only other "special edition" 928 ever built by Porsche. Meteor Metallic Grey with a full Burgundy leather interior. 1982 again but a 300HP Euro and only made for the ROW market not the US. Very unique in that it has Ferry Porsche's signature in the headrest. It was built to celebrate the 50 year anniversary of Porsche. Porsche also made a 924 and 911 version as well. Limited to only 140 928 cars. I know of three that made it to the States. One was stripped down to make a track car and I own the interior from it. The other two are here in Texas, one in Trophy Club which is about 10 miles from where I live and the other is in my Garage. Both the Weissach and the Jubilee are very special cars in my book.

Whats maybe a bit distorted is that as a "special" 928, more have survived from 1982 so that the percentage of Weissach's still around is growing relative to the general population of early cars. They are getting less rare over time.
Without the seats or luggage I am not sure I would treat a Weissach any differently from any other 82, except that the better the condition is the more I think the Weissachness might matter. |

Since we are on this topic...Has anyone every heard of a 928 1993 GT3RS? Now I am talking straight from the factory not aftermarket add-ons and mods....I believe a possible aftermarket mod from a GTS version but...I saw this car a few years back , Verona Italy for $80K and it truly made me drool (Not the price tag that is).

As I understand it "factory" in much of Europe included anything the dealer wanted to do, such as the Strosek mods etc. The US has strict laws regarding what can be done post factory, and most brands don't allow the dealer to mess with the cars either. Euro has different rules, with the dealer having a lot more rights in some countries.

Pat,
That really does look nice. Any more pictures. Vilheur would be able to tell us more about the car or maybe Nichole. Roger

Hey Rog, sorry to say is the only one I have, I did try to gain more but was too late. Of course this was in 2004 I believe or 2005 on autoscout24.it I can email this pic over to you if you desire, is good quality.
Danglerb, I here ya! thanks for the imput...that is interesting. I have been to the Ruf factory a few times and I know he is the only one who is authorized to mod & change the car's data plates (Ok'd by Porsche). Germany and a few other countries allow, but Italy is very strict and most locals are afraid to complete anything even wheel & tire upgrades hehe. Stosek is the mod I am thinking this car may have had by the looks of it but the car badge threw me off in a major way being that she is a 93' and all.

The parking sensors in the rear bumper are most assuredly not circa 1993. it looks VERY MUCH to me like a standard issue bodyshop custom with a good ol' fashioned used car dealer story of it being a 'rare' "factory package"... the GT3RS badge appears quite bogus, particularly in the red material. I am also not aware of Porsche using the GT3 or GT3RS designation that far back on any car, much less a 928.

I agree, had me stumped also, but nice piece of work anyhow....As far as the parking sensors on the rear bumper, definitely a GTS version but what year it came out I have no clue.
