So whats your plan for it?

I started taking body work off that is removable to sand down or replace. Changed the oil and flushed it out by running it with new old unit she got hot and then draining it and refilling with the new filter and oil. Since I'm not going to be running her in the street, I can warm her up a couple times a week and know she's got fresh oil. I have a timing belt but am going to wait and got the water pump. Looking for a parts car - the last owner through out all the seats and I have a guy that could of upholstered it all at a great price. I'm going to focus on the interior once the parts car comes and then the paint. Sanding down the paint will be may boy's work with the restore. He is jacked up. I wish dad did something like this when I was 14 years old!

First things first, congrats on your first 928! That said... holy smokes that certainly is a heck of a project! Did it have an interior fire of some sort? 928's are often refered to as sharks but I say it looks like a shark took a bite off that right front corner! Instead of trying to find a parts car why not find a car with a nice body/interior and a blown engine/trans and move the good bits of your car over to it? Otherwise it looks like a great candidate for a track car as it is already rather hollowed out. Keep us posted and best of luck on your new endeavor!

No fire - it's the way the guy took everything out and stuff just stayed dirty. Don't have alot of money but will take my time to do a nice job. 1 year 2years maybe it all depends but I needed a project and I have one. It's just not the need for speed but for a CHALLENGE!

The time you spend with your son with car will be priceless. When I bought the 1979 Euro 928 trans was out, needed painted,instead of tearing it down in the garage ,tore it apart in carport winter time. My wife called that car Nuts and Bolts. My son drove that car to the Junior Senior dance ,Senior Prom and when in collage I gave him the car. When you and your son are doing it together priceless. Have fun ,take a lot of pictures,and one day he will drive you around The 1985 928 that I just bought is called Nuts and Bolts II my son at the age of 36 said the other night WE might this car to. He has driven this car and the first thing out off his mouth , I fogot how much fun a 928 was

Your on the money and share the some point that to many people don't understand. We'll have a 928 to ride one day but for now let's put some memories in our kids that they will never forget. It's funny but dad whipped my but lots of times and I can't really remember them but I still remember the oil changes and heading to the local hot dog stand after wards. Thanks

When you get done you will know the car inside and out .

Also thinking of getting an under coating for the inside parts of the fender front and rear - eastwood has a good amount of products for this and I am also going to but new bushings for the rear and back suspension I'm thing of painting all the suspension parts with the satin finish chassis paint that they have. Has anyone used these products what do you think of them. Just trying to make sure that she can last another 29 years and not fall apart.

That is the plan and it's easier to troubleshoot if something happens.

Wow, I've been working on mine since Dec 2008a and your flying compared to me. I didn't realize the washer fluid bottle was so large.

You should put the wheels back on and push the car out to the driveway, apply liberal quantities of simple green, and pressure wash the chassis to see whats under the grime.

928's came with a heavy cosmoline coating on much of the underside including suspension, wheel arches etc.

Underneath that, the actual coatings painted on the frame from new are also pretty tough - mine has a thick rubberised undercoat beneath body paint on the frame, to afford even more protection.

With a good clean, you might find that you don't need much at least on the front end of the unibody. The rear quarters are however often a different story as the steel body panels got scratched or suffered from trapped dirt/moisture.

What year is it? Is that an "S"? Isn't that an "S" from spoiler on the front?

Thanks I'll do that with the simple green and pressure washing. It's a 1980 928 us not s but the old owner did tell me that the owner before him add an s spoiler but I though that it was the one on the back not front. You guys will know better I'm not sure.

You will enjoy the 5 speed. Good luck with the project. If you don't have the CD's, hunt-down Jim Moorehouse and spend the $80 for his version (or call Rog 100 at 928's R Us for it). The manual is important, but all the periphial technical and service bulletins that were packed into it, especially CD #1, are worth their weight in gold. Really.

Interior disarray always looks worse than it really is on these cars. Remember that 944 seats are perfect fits, and there are a hell of a lot of 944's out there.

Usually, the body doesn't corrode badly either, that's one thing I love about them. Aluminum, galvanized, coatings, thick paint.

I like the fact that your engine bay looks to be complete. If you are lucky, you won't have to go as deeply as MP did on his, replacing the engine and all. The engines on these can last a very long time and take a lot of abuse, so maybe yours will be solid. Mine is, no telling how many miles are on it.

My daily driver is an 84 5 spd. The interior had to be stripped-out to access all the wiring. I think lightening must have hit it, because everything electrical was fkd up. Right now, just the door panels and dash and console and front seats are installed. Probably 200 lbs of trim and sound proofing has been removed. This car will get a bare-bones "streetable" interior only.
