Create your own Interior Side Panels

Well had a very sad piece of interior side panel (right side under center console). It had a hard life, broken in 3 pieces and a repair hack job by PO. Anyways, bought a sheet of board (same as peg board, but no holes) at Home Depot for $3.50. Thickness and material were about the same as OEM. I used the old piece to trace out the pattern, but ended up cutting another since the original was broken in anther area, but didn't notice that until I tried to dry fit. Here are some pics I shot of the process.

Looks pretty good, how is the fit?

Was the carpet part of the kit from Rob?

Yup, all the black carpet is part of the Carpet Kit from Rob. I was a little hesitant that I should have went with the OEM (Sliverknit) rather than Domestic Pile, but the carpet installed looks and feels great. This is why it takes awhile to put all the carpet in as it takes a lot of trimming the carpet pieces.

Carpet

I have been using Marine carpet with great results in all my porsches. Most of them leak and the marine grade carpet has a waterproof rubber backing that does not mind the moisture.
Your workmanship looks great and the pictures show up very well. I use the same board for floorboard and retain them with black trim screws that never show. I am on my 4th car restoration and it has never been detected as a recarpet from home.

Good job.

I was thinking of doing this but I'd like to find a source for sheet ABS to use that instead of the wood. I'm probably going to just give up and do it in the hardboard though, honestly.

Yeah, like I stated, the board at HD was only a little over 3 bucks.

My interior guy did the same thing for my Euro, except he used plastic (the same he uses to make custom interior panels for hotrods).

no more fiber board, no more BS with warping, fraying, coming apart at the seams, etc.....

wish he could do it for the door panels and rear quarters.

At any rate, he's just about done with the remainder of my interior parts. should be finished up with them in a week or so. Really beautiful work.

Speeding

bump up ..Traveling salesmen make their living visiting as many customers as possible. So speeding to get from one appointment to the next is not unheard-of. Which is how I got pulled over by a highway patrolman. "Don't you ever look at the speedometer?" the officer scolded. Before I knew it, the truth spilled from my mouth. "As fast as I was going," I admitted, "I was afraid to take my eyes off the road." --------------dvd copy,--------dvd ripper, ------------------dvd to ipod,----------------dvd ripper,-------------------dvd software,-----------
