Post your location and maybe you can stir up some local help. Diagnostic tools are a big help, but they don't solve all problems or even locate all of them. I just sold my Hammer to a guy, and his car has no detectable problems, everything passes the Hammer testing.
For something low cost I think I would look for a tool that originated and is supported within the 928 community like the ones from JDS or Theo.

Thanks for the sound advice, although those tools are getting pretty close to the barrier between where I would get the tool and diagnose myself and the point where I would just take it to a shop (not necessarily the end of the world). For what it's worth, per your suggestion, I'm near downtown Houston.
Oh, and by way of update since last time I mentioned my issues, I have since disconnected, then replaced the MAF, all with no affect whatsoever on the startup issues. I can still start the car if I jumper the fuel pump and hold the throttle at just the right position. It won't rev, it won't idle without some amount of throttle, and it won't start with the fuel pump relay in place (the relay is good).
