Durametric Scan Tool

I'm still working on a '90 GT with some kind of electrical/computer problem that I had mentioned on here before and as much fun as it's been trying to find a bad connection manually, I'm thinking about picking up a scan tool to have a peek at what's going on in the computer. The Hammer is a little out of my price range, so I was looking at other options and wondering if anybody had tried Durametric's Enthusiast Package Option 2 and what they thought about it.

Thanks!

First I have seen it.

Post your location and maybe you can stir up some local help. Diagnostic tools are a big help, but they don't solve all problems or even locate all of them. I just sold my Hammer to a guy, and his car has no detectable problems, everything passes the Hammer testing.

For something low cost I think I would look for a tool that originated and is supported within the 928 community like the ones from JDS or Theo.

Thanks for the sound advice, although those tools are getting pretty close to the barrier between where I would get the tool and diagnose myself and the point where I would just take it to a shop (not necessarily the end of the world). For what it's worth, per your suggestion, I'm near downtown Houston.

Oh, and by way of update since last time I mentioned my issues, I have since disconnected, then replaced the MAF, all with no affect whatsoever on the startup issues. I can still start the car if I jumper the fuel pump and hold the throttle at just the right position. It won't rev, it won't idle without some amount of throttle, and it won't start with the fuel pump relay in place (the relay is good).

Sounds like the LH is bad. One of the outputs controls the pump relay.

Frankly I agree, but my boss swears up and down that he tried a known good LH unit in it and it acted exactly the same, which is why he thinks it's a wiring issue. The $40 to diagnose the LH is starting to look very tempting, even if it comes back good.

Are you sure you don't have some old aftermarket alarm system buried in the car?

Pretty sure. Funny you should say that, though, I recently went through a fiasco with my fiancee's Corvette in which the alarm system apparently entirely disabled the vehicle (I mean, the battery leads wouldn't even spark on the fully charged battery when they were tapped against it, none of the interior lights came on when you opened doors, nothing, just dead).
