Angry 1987 928s4 stuck in 3rd gear

my 928s4 now seems to be stuck in 3rd gear haven't a clue what could be the cause or the solution. i am new to Porsche after owning a total of 5 Mercedes over the years.never had one problem with any of my mercs but have had a lot of problems with the 928, the main problem being there is only Porsche dealership in northern Ireland and they are not very helpful (unless your wanting to buy a 997) plus real car enthusiasts like the smell of petrol not coffee when they go to look around cars(know what i mean).
so can anyone out there help me out with some advise.

Stuck

Steve,
Your description is not complete, however; if the car is a five speed it is possible the shifter ball socket poped out. The other possibility is the rear shifter coupling.

And if you have an automatic then its a Mercedes problem.

First thing to check on an auto is fluid level, replacing if old.

Shifter on a 5 spd connects to two rods on the bottom, one going forward with a plastic cup over a round ball (cup pops off ball).

All gears are in 3rd? Just to clarify, when you put in "1" or "2" etc it stays in 3rd?
