Another World o' Hurt 928 I'm considering

Found another Run Forest Run car; it's a 79. I just got what they think is the VIN:

fgnr 9288101930

that's what they sent.

It doesn't run as there's a hole in the gas tank.

Interior is gutted. no history.

Looking at this pic, is it a euro given the light in the left rear?

Yes, do not pass go, do not collect $200, just run away from that thing.

The paintjob is horrible! Yes, judging by the rear fog light and the add on side markers it appears to be a Euro. But Yuck.

the paint doesn't bother me, I can paint this in 5 days and it will be beautiful. I think it's a 78 and therefore only 240hp, so not really worth it.

looks like they had fun with paint---they painted everything except the glass.

yes, it's a '78 Euro.

229 hp 4.5L CIS injection

the good:

Euro, S4 wheels, no rub strips, no (rear) bumperettes

the bad:

paint, rust in the 1/4 windows--probably in the lower hatch as well, interior trashed (so you say), hole in gas tank (prices vary, but they can be bought), S4 wing

is it a 5-speed or slushbox?

does the engine run (if the gas tank was replaced)?

what is the asking price?

Russ, it's an auto.

engine is supposed to run.

$500

I just learned that 80 Euro's was the first year for 300hp. Dumb question, but can you take a 4.5 euro motor and make it a 4.7?

I'm not worried about rust or paint.

Cars with a bit of this and a bit of that from different years, best to presume nothing. That it was side lined for a hole in the gas tank (a bone head simple and not that costly repair) is a huge red flag. Now that its sat for some time with a hole in the tank, the whole fuel injection system is likely fubar.

The list of whats good might be very short with this car. If cheap enough it should provide at least a few parts to some other cars.

80 was the first year the 300 hp Euro S was offered, but the plain 4.5L 219 Euro was also offered up to 83.

The power upgrade is to remove the motor and replace it and all related fuel injection with parts from a Euro S. Classified section of Pelican has a motor that would work listed right now for $5k. The 4.5L isn't practical to do much of anything with.

Is that the one in NH?

I know of another early 928 that is in NH ... might be in better shape.

Though it needed body work.

It was green and was also $500. Was complete... interior not gutted.

If you want I can try to dig it up. Just send me your e-mail.

It needed quarter panel work (couple of dents in passenger one). It also had surface rust in the quarter window area.

Phone dial rims... oh it was a 1982 likely not Euro though.

just for fun--

you can get a tank for $400 or less.

if it runs otherwise, it may be fun for a beater car, not something I'd sink a ton of cash into as a restoration.

as Mike said, how long it has been sitting still will make the fuel system a go or no go (very expensive).

it could be just a car to have fun with.....?

Early Euro unless its the S is just a hard to register US 78/79 with 3 extra lights.

You could always test it with a fuel cell (gerry can and some hoses).

Replacement interior will be $$$$. Unless you love this car there are better deals to be had for cheaper money in the long run....if on the other hand you want a track car then thats a different story.

Interiors are heavy.

Shaun-

You want our opinion on this, but it occurs to me that you need to tell us what you want to do with it first. Race car? Not a bad place to start. Daily beater? Hmmm... maybe. Restoration? How fat is your wallet!

If I ran across this locally and had a place to park it, I'd buy it for a parts hog. Good luck!

Good question Norm.

I'd do to it what I did with my 84 Targa: suspension refresh, all mechanicals in top working order, good paint (do myself), everything else is just weight or waste of time in restoring.

On a scale of 1 to 10 where 1 is a garage car and 10 is dedicated DE car, I'm looking for an 8.5.

That's one reason I'm looking at beaters. More cost effective to buy a $4K car? Sure, but where's the challenge in that?
