Parking Brakes Shoe Spring?

I was wondering if this looks right with the spring sitting in the notch of the shoe adjuster? There is not other way to install it. It was that way before I put newer shoes. The 2nd pic is to make sure I have the other side correct. Any input?

yes both are proper.

the spring is designed to fit in the adjuster to prevent it from moving around on its own.

Oh BTW, before I put the rims back on, are these parking brake shoes self-adjusting or do I need to adjust them manually first?

manually adjusted.

However if you leave them loose, (ie adjuster at full short), put on the rotor properly there is a hole you can stick a screwdriver in to expand it with the rotor on. Then adjust further in the cabin.

Gotcha, seems ok for now, especially since they never worked before. PO had one side with no linkages, except for the shoes. The handbrake gets tight about the same height as the seat. Good enough for now, I can make it tighter later.

Just did the brakes and replaced the master cylinder tank grometts, and got some good used tires to replace the aged cracking tires on there now. I need to sort out a vacuum line coming from the spider and going towards the tranny and the bowden cable. Service the Tranny with some new fluid, gasket and filter. Then start looking at repairing the small stuff that I am seeing that need to fixed since the motor started.

Small crack in Coolant overflow.
pinhole in one the coolant lines.
bad clutch fan

Then I think I will start prepping the body, sand and primer. Send the rims to get powdercoated. Newer tires installed. Register the car out of non-op, then take to the local shop that works on 928's (recommended by Socal928) to get adjusted before smogging.

while you're in there, you could clean those nasty wheel hubs.......that rust isn't really good for any wheels, aluminum of otherwise---

Hi Russ,

Yup got in there yesterday and cleaned them up. After taking my son to the San Diego Zoo today, I had enough time to sort my vacuum line out. Next is to get my Bowden Cable situation fixed.

need help old tread doesnt help

hi lads,
I found this old tread on the handbrake/emergency brake. my problem is I dont seem to have the window to adjust the star adjuster. I also dont have the two screws to take off the rotor, there just seems to be the big nut in the middle.
wtf! am I missing something here?

I need to sort this asap. my car is a euro spec 1986 model. did they change things on this model? anyone with an ans on how I adjust without taking things apart would be great.cheers

ok cheers, I now see i have the later brakes of an s4. so what is the proceedure to adjusting the parking brake? I dont see a slot where i can adjust with a screwdriver and no small screws to take off the rotor. do i have to undo the whole brake setup?dont fancy that!

iv looked at the WSM and i cant find a writeup for s4 handbrake anywhere. need to sort this so i can get the car to pass a test and get it on the road so any help is appreciated.
