Question will it mount/looking for motor

hey my name is tony,
i have an 1979 928.

first i was wondering if i could switch out my 16 valve motor and get a 32 valve s4 motor
will they mount the same or no.i was wondering before i went looking for one.

ps.if they do mount the same where can i get one with low miles.i will trade motors to my motor only has 65,000miles.

thanks

The engines can be swapped if you change crossmembers.

But...

You'll need all the fuel management and spark control stuff from the engine donor car, along with engine, engine bay, LH and EZK wiring harnesses and fuse/CE panel. Fuel system is different, although the CIS pump will probably work for you OK for a while. While it's possible you could line up a wrecked 32V car to use as an organ donor, and do the whole conversion with parts from that car there is likely a much better way to go.

Advice: If you want a 32V 928, it's way cheaper and way easier to buy a whole running 32V car in good shape and just drive it. If you decide on a 86.5+ or S4/GT/GTS, you get significant brake and suspension upgrades included. If you get a pre-86.5 32V US car, it still comes with bigger brakes (S) than your '79.

My too sense...

Buy an 80 to 83 Euro S motor, its CIS same as yours and will go in fairly easily, but you will need some of the fuel injection parts that differ from the CIS system used on your 79.

Making any 928 "nice" is not a cheap hobby, making a hot rod nice 928 will eventually cost at least one arm and one leg.

The S motor is a good option if you can find a good one at a reasonable price. Be sure to get the whole Euro intake and CIS with it.

Meanwhile, S4 cars are selling at fire-sale prices for average to below-average cars. Premium cars still get a premium price, but even then a few have come up that could be had for a little less.

easiest upgrade for your 79 is a supercharger--$5-6K

a hybrid could/would be next (5.0l short block with your 16V top end)--less money, some power increase, but requires engine swap and machine shop work

next would be hybrid with Euro S top end.

next would be buy a S4

next would be hybrid/Euro S top end/ supercharger combo

next would be S4, GT or GTS with SC, turbos

I could go on.......but it gets really damn expensive in this direction>>>>>

swapping a 32V into an early car is not for the novice. you basically need a (wrecked) donor S4, GT, or GTS and swap engines, both computers, wiring harnesses, etc, etc......it can be a lot a damn work and expense. While you're at this, you should get brakes, suspension, transaxle, ad nauseum. Best candidate for this would be one that got creamed in the back end without damage to the transaxle or rear suspension.

the least expensive option it NOS injection---but you have to refill the tank when empty.

for some, it's no big deal.

for others, it's inconvenient.

it is big power for the least dollars....
