Aftermarket Stereo Install Tomorrow
I just got an Alpine Head Unit. I stated hooking up the harness to test it all out. All sounds great, got all 4 speakers hooked up, light dimmer too. I did a dry fit of the Shuttle Mount and it looks like I will need to cut up the sides of the Console trim a bit. I would say around a 1/4" on each side. Does this sound right?

What Alpine is it? The 928 is a common size that fits most units out there. Go to Crutchfield and see what comes up as fitting a 928.

It's the X200. Looks Standard, but it will require trimming. I did buy this from Crutchfield.

The ida-X200? I have an ida-x305 and it fits perfectly in my 87. What does your opening measure?

As you can see, I laid the shuttle next to the area which will need trimming. It shows on the 1st and last pic.

You shouldn't have to trim the surround to fit the bracket that holds the head. That is intended to be installed behind the trim surround. I would measure the front of your head unit, it will likly fit in between the console fine without triming. I think you will have to take the console trim piece out to install the head, then put the console trim back on over the head.

Yes, I believe on the early cars, they had this trim. Looks like the diameter on yours is what I need to trim down to. I basically said "f%$# it," those trim pieces are a dime a dozen, so I broke out the dremel. In the pics, you will also see that this trim has a curve in it so you need to flatten this out in order for the Alpine Trim Ring to sit flush. If you don't, then you'll have a big gap that you can see below the red warning strip (my Euro is Seat Belt Warning) light.

Hooked all up and tested. Ipod input works like a charm. I also pre-connected the Subwoofer RCA Jacks and ran wires to under the passenger seat for a future amp. I am overall very happy with this unit and it's exactly the look I was hoping for.
Also, 30 year old door and rear panel Blaupunkt speakers don't sound too shabby either.

Looks like you did a nice job trimming. Unlike the beaver that gnawed mine.
![]() As much as I like to listen to the engine, its nice to have tunes too.

Thanks guys. A Dremel is must tool to have. Had it since my Radio Control Hobbies. Hey Tedward, that's no big deal. Like I said, those trim pieces are no big deal and aren't hard to find. Now to close up the operation table and go for a spin.

My car is Frankensteined. The car came with a punched ignition, so the PO gave me a set of used but uninstalled Ignition, Door and Truck lock tumblers and Key to open all these. I just did the locksmith DIY on the Gas Cap, so that 1 Red key opens everything on my car. I never tried it on the Glovebox as I never have locked a glovebox in any car I have ever owned.

Looks great! Now, you just need an Inifinity Bass Link in the trunk to round out the system.
(unless, of course, you already have a sub - nevermind)

No Bass yet. I just pre-wired it though, so I won't have to pull the stereo again. I'm a Rockford Fosgate fan, so it will be a Punch Speaker and Amp.

Bazooka all the way. I remember when Rockford was still just a dairy.

You won't believe this! I just went to my Bro in Laws house today to help him get a Weed Wacker sorted out. He then takes me to his garage and shows my some insurance reimbursements for having his Honda broken into last year. He hands me a 12" Fosgate Punch Woofer and Box, brand spanking new! All for the price of free fifty free. I love my family! What timing!
Oh, BTW. Bazooka has always been a "sell out" set up for us Bass Boomers back in the day ![]()
