OB front spoiler group buy interest?

All my cars have broken front spoilers, betting a bunch of other cars are the same way, but put off by the cost of a new one. How many people would be interested in trying to arrange some kind of group buy on front spoilers?

My thought is a group buy might get us some level of savings on each unit, and for people in the same area, like SoCal that shipping a batch at once to the same location might be much cheaper as well per unit.

I've also been wondering about a different front spoiler design with a middle section that is cheap and easy to replace.

I am not really needing one, as I bought a new one a few years back.

However, there is interest (over there) in getting the guys @ CPRacing to do some plastic work for 928's.

probably would require shipping a good one to him to use for a mold, then a production run of ?????

there are many other products that could be produced, but you've probably seen the thread....

most significant would be door/quarter panels/headliner, aero mirrors (likely), hatch receiver (very likely), and the list goes on.....

Frankly, if you could get one produced for around $200, I'd be interested in another just to have for a spare.

I looked at that thread when it first came up, but haven't been following it. I can't post, so might as well just wait and see what comes to fruit.

So far not much interest being shown. Mine will be ok with another patch of fiberglass, but its old enough to be brittle so it cracks instead of bends anymore. I gave the poll I think 15 days, so I will let it play out and see if more people are interested.

New OEM looks like about $450, ouch.

I got a new OEM one from Vertex a few years back for $299 when they had them on special. My black car needed one when I bought it. The PO had broke it in two places and attempted to tie wrap it together.

Thought I was going to need another when when I had a spin and went off track and then clipped a tire barrier with the front end.. I was surprised to find it had not broken...

Spoiler

I plan on reinforcing any new spoiler with a piece of L-shaped angle iron as it is too expensive to replace these spoilers . I can't see why they are so easy to break. I can fold a 944 front valence twice and stick it in the trunk of the car without breaking but just bump the spoiler on a 928 and boom the thing self destructs.

I think they get brittle with age, but I would aim in the direction making them cheaper and easier to replace instead of stronger. Whats going to happen the first time that iron reinforcement hits a parking space concrete thing, something is going to give and it won't be the concrete.

If you can come up with at least 5 spoilers I can come up with a better price and possibly free shipping - let me know if that is of interest.

Roger,

What exactly is better pricing for over 5 orders? Or maybe there is an aftermarket one? The OEM is overpriced, IMHO.

The OEM is the only show in town that I am aware of.
Expensive yes but no other option. I wish there was.
I may be able to get the price to circa $350 from $395.
Free shipping is worth a few $$$ as well.

I still think that's pricey. If we can get them under $200, then I think that would be more ideal. Make 'em in Taiwan, China, Vietnam, wherever. They are so far tucked away, no-one would know the difference. One Curb, Parking Block or Squirell hit and they don't care whether it's Porsche OEM or Tai-Chi made, they will all break.

Across the alley from Precision Motorwerks is a company that makes urethane spoilers, and I have talked to him, but to make a mold it would be more like 100 spoilers that would need to be bought (wild guess). Tossing out some numbers, say $130 each qty 100, and $100/month for storage for say 5 years, say $20k total, I just don't see it as likely to beat this price by a practical amount to make it worth buying non OEM and a seller to pay for their time.

I just ordered one for mine from Roger.
