Someone with an x-pipe

I am going to be building my own x pipe soon unless I can find something cheaper. I need to know where to put the x. Maybe someone could mesure say from the bell housing for meto the center of the x?

your best bet would be to buy one that has already been tested and manufactured.
Many hours went into development of these pipes and just fabbing one up may not give you the most HP, if you want to try then go ahead .
For the money its the best upgrade, Roger sells them and Motorsport in Utah makes them, goodluck, Stan

Start with this like I did. Works the same...

ANY, I repeat, ANY form of an X-pipe will generate more HP than the factory balance pipe, or H-pipe.

Two main factors on a merge pipe, distance to the valves, and geometry of the merge pipes, but I suspect your right, anything is better than factory.

Is there any cheaper H.P. to be gained on a 928? Exhaust tuning is a science and should be backed up by a lot of testing. Subtle angles and joints can make big differences in the flow of gasses. A well tuned exhaust system really sounds *****en as well.

Ok thanks for responding. Here is my problem. The pipe broke at the forward muffler. (I guess the rear hanger fell off) Pretty damaged from there back. I can do the welding and the bending but, I was thinking of buying a pre made x like the one pictured above. Where should I locate the x and also I was wondering what to do from there. I was thinking about going straight back to the rear muffler well and either using two mufflers or a dual muffler. I was hoping for some pics of a well set up car so I will have a visual blueprint. And your opinions as well.

Thanks,
Carl

What about a complete 928 dual system that is built for street?

Dual vs single is a piping problem, no inherent advantages except that dual cats might flow a bit better than a single cat, but they also might have some effectiveness issues due to the reduced flow through each cat.

Piping is all about the square inches of cross section, and number and type of bends. Models with a big battery box may not be practical to run two pipes to the rear, but nothing to stop you from running one pipe and using a dual outlet muffler for show.

Saw a dyno a while back on Louie Ott's site that shows that a 3.5" single pipe GT dynoed more than a dual exhaust with x-pipe.

Interesting. I assume no cat.

I don't remember if it had a cat on it or not.

Still can't wait to dyno my weld in. I still need to shark tune it prior to getting any real charts showing numbers. All in all, I'm still very happy with the weld-in and the larger piping. Much more pull than before and only a $350 bill for exhaust from the manifolds back.
