Manual Transmission rebuild - where?

Does anyone know of a reliable manual transmission rebuilder on the East-Coast or better yet close to Virginia? I really don't want to use a transmission exchange program such as Vertex or 928 Intl. Nothing against them or their abilities. Just looking for a single source that is reliable with a good track record. Would appreciate any input on this matter. Thanks, milspam

What year transmission? If it's not a Borg Warner box, I wouldn't even bother with it.

I'm going to try rebuilding my own early transmission, a G28/08, but more from curiosity than practicality. You need to be aware that when you have your specific transmission rebuilt instead of doing an exchange the costs can be variable usually in the upward direction depending on the parts replaced.

Well, does anyone have a good starting point for finding a later year Borg Warner transmission and what the cost would be? I know that the earlier units seem to have weaker sycro's, but are there any other benifits?

Many people are looking all the time for a 85+ 5 spd, so prices are often at a premium, but $1000 to $1500 is common for used, non rebuilt, with LSD adding about $500 more. GT and GTS maybe another $1500.

Not just stronger syncro's, smoother and faster shifting. Most used early 5 spds need rebuilding, most used newer ones don't, or don't need as much.

Gio on rennlist I think has a 5 spd for sale still.

Jimmy Ellison at European Performance in Raleigh www.europeanperformance.net
You could also talk to the guys at Funktion Auto in NoVa, or Curry's in NoVa, don't know how many they've done but Jimmy has done quite a few including mine

Short of joining rennlist how could I get in touch with Gio, who may still have a late model manual transmission? Thanks

Save your money on something else other that a membership at Bannlist that will criticize your username right off the bat. Get Mike or another member over there to get that Gio's email addy. Although they are being chummy at the moment and hooking people up with free parts

PM me with your email and I will give it to Gio, but you don't have to pay to participate on RL. There are two levels, registered USER, and paid MEMBER. You have to pay to post buy or sell, and for images to be hosted on RL, or to use the off topic and members only areas, but plenty freeload.
