'87 and later 928's have the Fuba Betaflex radio antenna: Where is it mounted?

The Fuba Betaflex antenna, which was first seen in the United States on the 1986 VW Scirocco 16 valve, and later on the 1987 Porsche 928S4....

WHERE is it mounted? I know that I've seen something in the workshop manuals that details this. I spent an hour today combing my set- I wasn't able to find it. I was able to find a description of where to put the cellular and "C-Net" antenna's....

[What is a "C-Net" phone?]

but I am sure I saw, one day, a description of how to position the Fuba antenna on an earlier car. Though it is not correct, and I will NOT hook it up, I still prefer the look of the little whip antenna at the back of the roof. It probably knocks about 5 mph off the cars' top speed, but then again I'm not racing my 928, and I am certainly not going that fast on public highways!

Question: Those of you with S4 and later cars...millimeter measurement from the rear edge of the roof stamping to the CENTER of antenna mount: What is it?

Thanx!

N!

Useless now, CDMA is the current standard for several companies. (Verizon and others) they use something else in Europe now too. (ENS or something)

Heh! LOOK at the WSM chapters on this instalation! The WSM's detail a box about the size of a suitcase or a typical PC computer, covered in carpet, and taking up about 1/5 of the hatch area! The device under the cover has about 25 feet of excess cable, and the WSM's spend about 25 pages showing how to run the wires for power and antenna. They even give two dimensions for the antenna- one with sunroof, one without.

Fascinating-

-I posted this thread asking for a measurement from the rear edge of the roof stamping to the middle of the hole for the Fuba antenna on S4 cars. Anyone up to hang a tape measure across the roof of the car in your garage?

I come up with 40mm from the rear edge of the roof to the center of the roof antenna

Normy - technically speaking, the roof mount antenna started in 1989, IIRC.

Took a picture of mine, but I see MrMerlin beat me to the punch.

I measured approximately 12mm, or 7/16th of an inch, from the very back of the base to the hatch gap. Stan's measurement of 40mm to the center appears correct as well.

HTH!

the roof antenna should be drilled from the inside after you have opened the sunroof all the way and removed the sunroof motor cover.
This will let you see where exactly where the nut will go and so that it wont hit the transmission lines of the sunroof.
