finally ready
Alright, I知 finally ready to bite the bullet. After letting the 928 sit up for 2 months in the garage I知 calling Roger today and ordering the following:
Porsche TB WP and seal (possibly a Laso brand- is this acceptable?) and mounting bolts Thermostat seal / o-ring All radiator hoses Cam seals Porkensioner All accessory belts Idler roller (do I really need this? If so, should I replace the belt rollers too?) Heater valve and short hose AC mounting bracket (mine is broken) Is there anything else I should do while I知 in there replacing the wp, tb, and tensioner?

No point in paying extra for a "Porsche" belt, and I think its usually best to follow whatever advice you get from Roger in terms of what you might need. I'm not sure its his policy, but with some vendors they will ship you "everything" and if your old part is ok, ship back the stuff that doesn't get used.

Thanks Mike D. I have heard somewhere that the Continental belts stretch and that's why one should use the Porsche belt. Would you suggest doing the cam, oil, and crankshaft pulleys too?

You need to inspect the cam gears for the anodizing wearing off, other gears I think are steel and don't wear out.
I ended using a Flenor belt, but OEM Porsche I think is ok, just no need for porsche box or bag with the OEM part inside. |

Again, thanks. I'm hoping one of the local guys will be able to help me do the wp, tensioner, and tb change since this will be my first time. Maybe some cold beer (good beer too- Bass, Harp, etc.) will lure them.

Rumour has it that the Continental stretch's and verifyed by experts such as Bill Ball & Greg Brown.
I play safe and only sell the Gates belt which is exactly the same belt you will get from Porsche for twice the price. On the earlier cars I supply a Flennor belt which is again a Gates belt (Flennor is a German division of Gates). Cam gears may be steel on your 82 ROW .

while doing the TB and related parts, you may want to upgrade to HTD gear sets/belt.
you could so far as to upgrade to S4 HTD cam gears/cam hubs as well, and add Porken's adjustable cam timing pcs . you can then accurately time the cams with Ken's timing tools. --R

Changing the oil pump seal...if bad ... is easiest then than any other time. Also the fuel lines. Your dealing with the best IMHO if your buying from Roger. He will give you good advice as well...and not just sell you parts.

Thanks for all the suggestions gentlemen. Roger is supposed to be getting back to me soon (today or tomorrow). I hope to start pulling the front of the engine off tomorrow so when the parts arrive (hopefully later this week) I can get them on lickety-split. I'm chomping at the bit to get the 928 on the road.
