Rebuilding 928 Parts

Are there any common items known to not be rebuildable?

Like compressor or air pumps?

The only thing that comes to mind is the receiver for the rear hatch. The rubber part goes bad, and then you can't get the hatch to work. The receiver is available, but parts are dwindling, from what I've read. The real part is the rubber insert; this isn't made any more.

I thought there was a part being made somewhere on the other forum. Is this the rubber part you are talking about?

Rog made a go of it- but I called looking for one a couple weeks ago and he's quit because it wasn't working.

My hatch squeaks like nothing else...I want to weld it shut !

Yipes, I have one waiting to install.

The catch with a number of parts like the early AC compressor, its also used on MUCH more common vehicles such that wholesale from junkyards to rebuilders the price is less than individual shipping costs.

Other parts like brake booster, rebuilding seems like its all mom and pop operations.

Hate to say it, but if the hatch area is flexing enough to make noise, doesn't sound good. Maybe try a very thin coating of safe on rubber grease on the seal?

Brake System Rebuild -

I had a light scraping noise (rush – rush – rush) just as the brakes were applied when my 84 was 1st put back on the road. A buddy who ran along side the car as it slowly rolled forward said it sounded like the brakes or the muffler bearing. Luckily - after some troubleshooting it turned out to be the right rear disc was a bit rusty. I was told that the muffler bearing can really be expensive to rebuild….
