Motor Issues When Starting and When Running Cold
 

hello, i got my car back from the chevy guy. ;);) its doing this weird thing though, when i start it, it sounds like it doesnt want to run. it will not start for a couple of cranks, then it will like lope really at a really low RPM like a car does when its running out of gas. then, when the idle comes up, it idles at like 1100 rpm. now here is where it gets weird. whenever you barely hit the gas, the idle drops and it starts loping around again then it pops back up above idle (because you have the gas pedal down a little bit over idle). also when you drive it, you can give it as much gas as you want but it alwasy bogs down like hell THEN it gives you power. its almost like i was flooring it then let off. thats what it does before it revs up like normal when driving. after like 3-5 minutes of driving it all goes away (the weird gas thing) but it still idles at like 1200rpm. any ideas? this is the only thing thats keeping me from driving it because the last thing i want is to run it lean for a long drive or something. all comments are appreciated, even the smart-alic ones :p

For your problem,what was the last thing you fixed??

i dont know what color it is. :p i do know that it isnt the original paint color though. at night time its purple until you shine a light on it, then it turns dark blue. and i dont know what the last thing was that was touched. i just got it back from this chevy guy my dad took the car too and now it does this...:( any ideas? fuel mixture? fuel pump/pressure? anything?

DAMN! That car is too cool! I love the color and the wheels! And that is by FAR the best way that I have ever seen to handle the "federalization" holes for the US-required side marker lights! What are those side marker lights, and where did you get them?

Take it back to the Chevy place. Tell him that it didn't do this this until he worked on it. Let him figure it out or have him explain exactly what he did.

you mean the ones on the rear? i can get a part number off of them if you would like. ;)

here is a video i took today of what its doing. i ramble quite a bit so you can exit out of the video whenever you hear and realize whats going on with the car. and........excuse my language. (sorry) : Click Right MYAH!

oh, i also forgot to mention that all of these problems eventually go away after like 10 minutes of driving fairly hard.

Maybe a vacum leak. Not a huge one but a cracked hose. Check for old hard brittle hoses.

thats strange, because i had just replaced all of ( i think all of) the vacuum hoses. :(

Check all the components of the cold start system to see if any electrical or vacuum connections were left loose. IIRC the WUR should have 2 vacuum lines attached (one top and one on the side). Also make sure that both vacuum lines are properly attached to the distributor advance mechanism.

i just went out and check them. they look like they are fine. could this be a fuel starvation type thing because the pump is old and what not?

im surprised no one has had this issue. it seems like a common thing for older cars to not really want to start and what not.... i know my old VW dune buggy is (or was) doing the same thing. i never figured out what it was.

When cold, the CIS system does need more fuel so it could be the pump. Have you checked the flow rate on it? Also, how old is the filter? Make sure the vacuum lines to the WUR and distributor (ignition) haven't been reversed?

this is going to sound stupid, but how do you check the filter (where is it) and the flow rate? i know on my SB Ford ive got an AN fitting i screw a fuel guage into but i dont know about my 928.lol.:D

How about...did the Chevy guy change the timing? It also sounds like it could be set wrong in adition to the fuel side/mixture of the equation.
I remember from another of your posts that he may be doing some stuf (Chevy talk) in the engine compartment. They have a habit of reseting values to some percieved point (they believe accurate #'s) --> timing & fuel mixture

The filter will either be at the front of the right fender well or above a cover under the rear of the car. The pump also could be in either of those locations. Minimum flow rate is about 1100 ml in one minute.

he only had it for like a week or two. he has never worked on it before. also, how in the hell do you check your A/F ratio if your 02 sensor bung is welded shut on your exhaust??:confused:

that looks like it, but its also pearlescent. it changes to purple in the dark until light is shined on it.
