well, 110 in 4th gear isnt bad! the brakes suck! it pulls like a demented mule, and 3rd is near impossible to get into. now here are the things i need answered from you guys:
1. why does the idle, after flooring it for a run, hang at like 1500 and take a long time to come back down?
2. why does it sputter around 4K when flooring it every once in a while? (sounds like its misfiring or it doesnt have enough fuel)
3. what does this mean? (oil sprayed out of the little yellow thing)

I'll take a stab:
1. why does the idle, after flooring it for a run, hang at like 1500 and take a long time to come back down?
Not sure on this one probably Brain (CIS, L-, ...) related. Is it a smooth decel or flutter
2. why does it sputter around 4K when flooring it every once in a while? (sounds like its misfiring or it doesnt have enough fuel)
Could be timing or fuel pressure
3. what does this mean? (oil sprayed out of the little yellow thing)
The little yellow thing is the tighten nut for the oil supply...it could be a bad o-ring/seal or no seal around the lid that the yellow thing goes through. See the hose that attaches to the lid with the yellow thing, the clamp may be loose. The hose just referenced could have a split in it; trace it backwards it converges into a larger blackhose in a Y-shape this Y hose joint fails and can leak.
BTW...the oil looks old, to dark

1. You have the same problem I have: Your throttle cable is funkalated and needs to be replaced. Why I am so lazy to do this I don't know; I guess it could be adjusted, but I've tried everything and it seems like the throttle spring isn't strong enough to bring it back to the stop. After a good run, mine hangs at about 1200 rpm, until I "goose" the throttle, and then it comes back to about 750, where it is supposed to be. I've worked on the idle stabilization valve- I've poured WD-40 into it, but it is pretty obvious from the "kick-down" that the throttle won't come back to its stop. It is in perfect condition; I suspect that the cable itself is full of 25 years of crud and old oil and simply binds up. One of these days I'll get around to replacing it~

2. I have no idea. You need to mount an air-fuel gauge and then tell me what it says when this effect is taking place. I have a PLX device in my glove compartment; best mod I ever did!

3. Do a compression check. Your oil-filler cap is blowing oil; this shouldn't happen. 928 International |Porsche 928 Parts | New, Used and Rebuilt has this part. You've probably got some significant "blow by"; what does a compression check of your engine reveal? If the rings or valve guides are bad, then combustion pressure will leak into the crankcase and you will have oil squirting out the seal around your filler, and probably a few other places. If compression checks out, buy a new cap.

Good luck!

N!

Yeah, do the checks Normy is saying. I think your ok but good to make sure. It's probably an o-ring or seal as stated. Also, WTF are you doing 110 when you just starting to test it out. Sounds like "exactly" what i did when I was first testing mine. It started to shake a little at that speed so i backed off once I hit 110 too. I already know i have some suspension stuff to sort out.

You REALLY NEED to do a fresh oil change after you sort out your oil spray issue.

thats funny, cause i just changed the oil in it. as for the oil spray, can it do that if i accidentally over-filled the oil? and what should i use to check my air/fuel ratio if my O2 bung in the exhaust is welded shut? and (again) where can i plug in a fuel pressure guage?

I did 110 then I started smelling gas! Checked it out afterwards and the fuel injection hoses were cracked. Had those replaced ASAP. Going that fast on a turn was pretty scary with bad front shocks, so I got those replaced as well. After I get my car working again resulting from a bad audio install job, I'll test it out again!

Ha ha. Man your test driving sounds like mine. Funny how we can't help but push these things while we know they have underlying issues. Be careful brotha.
