CIS, aka Kjet, 101
This is a thread for people to post links, images, etc related to taming CIS injection.
All I know are the basics, and please correct me if I have that wrong as well. Kjet or CIS, Continuous Injection System is a mostly mechanical pressure controlled system. The injectors have no electrical control, flow depends on manifold vacuum on one side and fuel pressure as controlled by the fuel distributor, WUR, and fuel regulators on the other side. Fuel pressure regulators adjust the "base" fuel pressure by controlling the amount of fuel from the tank and fuel pump that is returned to the fuel tank. They keep the base pressure a fixed amount above the manifold pressure. WUR, warm up regulator sends a control pressure to the fuel distributor, and all I understand is that it makes the air fuel mix richer when the motor is cold. Fuel distributor, combined with the air meter "vane" the flow of air into the motor moves an internal piston up and down and that controls the pressure of the fuel to each of the injectors. |

I just did mine today, and the hardest part was actually spreading the sealant uniformly on the mating surfaces without getting it in the orifices.

Noooooo, didn't you get my v.m. Dano? There has got to be something I am overlooking, I just can't believe this! I don't know why this car is not getting fuel to the injectors!

This one works and is cheap. Whats key is the you need adapters to fit the fuel injection connectors.

This one has the Bosch CIS adapters?
I'd ask one of the experts at Harbor Freight but you know how that goes. |

Absolutely, before buying verify the Bosch CIS connectors. I bought this one, but it doesn't have the Bosch connectors. OTOH if you need two gauges to trouble shoot some parts of the CIS like Jim Bailey suggested, it might make a good number two gauge.

A proper fuel distributor rebuild would not use sealant. It's really beyond a home garage to do one well.
There is one shop I know of that specializes in CIS and could rebuild a distributor and WUR but I can't think of his name, hmm...he might be in Alabama perhaps?

Actually rjm65 rebuilt his and has been successful, this is where BB500 got his seals. We did recommend him to not use the shellac sealant he purchased, and to use another type of sealant (I am not sure what he "rjm65" used).
We are all from East County here in San Diego, so we're following his progress closely.

The recommended shellac worked great (no leaks) I just let it dry before sandwiching the halfs. Rebuilding the fuel distributor was childs play... I don't think I would recommend someone who doesn't have any sort of mechanical skills to take on the job though, as it can be kind of tricky.

Cool! I just know that Raymond had issues with the shellac. I saw first hand how his car ran like crap. He used a different type of sealant and it cleared it right up.
BTW, did this clear up the plunger issue (got more pressure?)

If you are going to own a CIS car, you need the CIS gauge. The JCWhitney one has been tested and confirmed that it's got everything you need. The Harbor Freight one does not, and while it can be adapted/modified to work, how much time do you have to hunt down connectors and the valve?

Stephen did you ever get a chance to compare the JC to the big HF set?
Any chance you could post some picts of the connectors that are needed? I was thinking about making up some test connectors from some junk yard parts. (not to save $59, but for the science) |
