Yes, the JVC KD-AVX77 is $599 not bad but don't think I need a video screen in the car. It is nice with the touch screen and some of the features but all I need is a nice looking replacement radio with good FM, that matches the car. I would have kept the Monteray had the FM worked for now. No matter how fancy of a radio you buy today, tomorrow it will be old hat, obsolete. I certainly would never use a DVD in the car; when not driving it I would not be in the car. Guess I am just getting old at 66. I can see the bluetooth and other new features however. That JVC is interesting and has plane look when off. Something to consider. That Jensen 8013 still had the nice clean look, not a bunch of cheap looking chrome junk knobs. I think it fits in more with the original look of the car, but still considering others.

Yes, i hear you about the cheap look in some stereos (auto and home). I have "Always" hated the "Silver" look when they started to try and take over the "Black" look. I've been an Audiophile since I was a teenager and love Music. I too am getting up there in age, but I also know to get something good first than having to rip it out and do it right the 2nd time.

I just put my Alpine in my car just a few months ago and it's already obsolete :(

Yes those are all popular brands for sure. I have been a stereo nut since a kid and I have a very nice and big system here with the likes of brands like Klipsch, Dennon, Bose, NAD, Crown, etc. I think I have about 2,000 watts of RMS audio. Enough to vibrate the walls here, plenty of DB for sure. But it's very clean audio. I salvaged my Bose 1801 amp from the fire I had some years ago. I paid $1,100 for it in 1974 and it's my back up amp, hard to move at 110 lbs.! My feeling is after a certain level of performance is reached in equipment you are paying many times more for so little gain. Is a $20,000 audio amp going to sound that much better than one costing $2,000?? I don't think so. In average home use, no. Reasonable cost and good quality is the way to go, unless one is in a status deal of sorts. So a good middle of the road radio for my 928S will do I guess. Even the new Blaupunkt's don't have that rich look they had in the 86 928. I am disappointed in the cheap look of some of these new models. Kind of like the new cars, all look the same, some pretty darn ugly! Boxes or acorns on wheels!

Alpine has been considered a top line radio. You know, That JVC you pointed out when off, might just look like a blank panel rather than a radio.

That's exactly what it says it will do. My A/F Gauge does just that when the powers off. Gives it a clean look.

Hi Mr. MPDano, I got a good price on this $464 and have ordered it. It will look real neat in the 928S. I looked at those with the roll out screens but they would hide the climate controls. This screen not as big but should look nice and fit the car. Also touch screen is the latest deal. Probably get it next week sometime.

OK, when I get it and installed, I will take pic's for everyone to see. It has nice features and should look good in the car. They said it should fit and is single DIN.

I think the before, during and after becomes more useful for all to see.

New Radio
 

I am in the process or installing my new JVC KD-AVX77. My car has the original booster amp which I am bypassing. In tracing all the wiring, I found the speaker connections are at the booster amp, located between passenger seat and door under a pod. Since I am using the original speakers, I am running a 4 conductor cable to the booster amp location and into the speaker connections there. It appears the fader control is between the radio and booster amp inputs, so this will be disabled. I am leaving the booster amp in place, although not being used. This should eliminate rewiring all the speakers. Just a matter of removing the 4 speaker connectors and splicing in the new cable going up to the radio.

Yup, that is what I did, except I removed my Blau Amp from that area.

Great! Well, I can always remove it I guess. Oh, I used one 8 conductor cable, not 4 as I had mentioned. I am now wiring up the new radio connector. This JVC has more outputs/inputs/wires than you can imagine.

My main sound system is by Magnaflow. ;)

The JVC mp3 I have is just for times when there is too much traffic to "play" the main system.

Yeah, I was wondering since you will need 4 pairs. Mike is right too, my exhaust really is my main MP3 ;)

My stock exhaust is still in great shape. I once owned a 67 Corvette, 427 450HP, L88 engine and side exhaust! My hearing suffered and ears would ring after driving it.

Still installing the radio here. A few problems with getting power to it. I left the original amp in and it had a white wire from Ant. Amp also going to the old audio(booster) amp and this is causing the old amp to turn on. May just have to remove the old Booster amp. I had hooked up the original 12V+ and ground from the old radio wiring (power plug), maybe the red and brown wires. Evidently, that small white connector on the original radio powers the antenna amp and also turns on the booster amp when you turned the Blaupunkt on.

My new radio has a wire to power a power antenna and I hooked up that white wire to that lead (antenna amp), which also it appears goes to the booster amp.
