Loud Hummmmmm?????

Recently, I have noticed a loud humm coming from the rear corner of my car, the fuel tank/pump area. Is my fuel pump telling me it is going bye bye??

It is coming from that pass rear corner, and you can really hear it humm after a bit if driving. Danger to drive right now or will it just Crap out if it gets to that point??

Could be it just doesn't know the words.

As I understand it, thats how it goes, noisy, then fails, then gets replaced. Mine is pretty noisy too, but more a whine than a humm, so could be something else.

Park it carefully, and go around and listen. A rubber tube works well for listening without sticking your head under the car.

A (whine) sounds about right, hum, whine, it has been doing it for a bit now, has not gotten worse, just wondering if it was directly coming from the fuel pump, but definitely coming from that right rear corner under the taillight.

I can hear my pump when I turn the key on, then a little whiles after I start it. It eventually goes away. Does yours keep humming after running for awhile?

Noise

You may also have a fuel filter that is clogged causing back pressure.

I've never known a Bosch fuel pump not to hum, but normally when it starts humming louder, it's on it's way out.

Sometimes I can hear mine plain as day, others not at all.

I probably should start trying to buy a replacement, plus the filter.

I do hear the common pump run when the key is turned, etc. Then, once it runs for a while seems to get a little louder, but then again sometimes I have to try to hear it. Don't know, guess I am just overly noticing it now, but as said above locking down a new one and filter and planning an overhaul will definitely not hurt, I am on it...

Thx guys, appreciate the feedback.

I run Marvel Mystery Oil in every tank in all my cars.

I think the MMO has a way of lubing the fuel pump. I like to run Amsoil Performance Improver, which is super-strong fuel system cleaner, then follow up with the MMO thereafter. Clean it all, then lube it. I like to think the MMO has a way of massaging the fuel pump after it's been thoroughly scoured.

I may be wrong about it, but my cars run so well with MMO in the tank.

It could also be your vapor recovery system for the gas tank. If vapors build up you get pressure that leaks out at the gas cap and makes that humming noise. Loosen your gas cap when it happens to see if that solves it. If it does then probably a vacuum valve in your vapor recovery system has failed. If it doesn't fix it then I guess you will be in the market for a new fuel pump soon. Good luck.
