1984 928s seat issue

is there a seat relay for the 84 928 oor is there just a fuse! seat was working, then while putting switch back for the seat back(back seat rest, back and forth) it just stopped working, checked fuse box, fuse was blown, replaced it and seat still not working! so is there a relay somewhere to accompany the fuse? any help would be appreciated

Something caused your fuse to blow. Your switch may be bad, use the same switch from the other seat to troubleshoot.

Those are hard to just switch out and move. Wires are soldered to the back of the seat switch, then they route to the bottom of the seat to the motors. You'll need ET type fingers to get to them without pulling the bolts off the rails. The switches are junk. Have you tried to look under your seat to visually see. Once of the wires could have gottn pinched and caused the short. A visual check will be a lot easier than yanking the seat, especially if you can't move it to remove it.

I ended up having to pull the seat cables and hooking it up to a drill to move my seat, so i could get to the mounting bolts.

Which motor(s) are not working?

Seat recline?
Back / forth?
Front edge raise/lower?
Back edge raise / lower?

I'm rebuilding and redying seats today and might be able to help simplify for you.

My switches are plug and play. But it's an 82. Does he have the four-ways?

No relay on a 84S. Switches are plug and play, undo the 4 or so screws holding the panel in and it will pull off, then remove the plugs on teh back of teh switches, swap out with the other side to test. I have spare switches if you need one, PM me and let me know.

I've had a couple seats with a broken wire inside the insulation running up into the seatback.

Ah yes, my seats are from an S4 and not an "S." So Neil would be correct.

I've worked on 11 seats in the last 2 weeks. Am getting too old to crouch down and work beneath, instead have been pulling them and putting them onto a benchtop or truck tailgate to work on them.

Have a 12 volt car battery and some alligator clips to put power to the seat and to each individual motor.

S4 seats are interesting, really nice design, very serviceable.

Actually so are S seats.

I wonder what rebuilt / recovered leather seats would cost.

wow

this site is awesome! first i bought this 84 928 with 122k miles, been siting under a tree for almost a year, gentleman said it needed alt and other work, so i bought it for 1500.00,towed it home, bought a new battery, changed plugs and all fluids and drove it to work in the next week, the seat issue,i went into my fuse box and took out each fuse one by one and cleaned terminals and have not had that problem again! all seats are working!!! now if i can just find me a reasonable front lower spoiler and right air duct and i will be ready to have her repainted! when i find out what this red paint code is

Looks good! If that's the original single stage paint, you should be able to gently polish it to an extreme shine.

Should be indischot red. Looks like it.

Porsche Crest

Thanks guys! I am the kind of guy that drives by and wonder about that "car" u have sitting under your tree! And that's how I stumbled upon this one! My wife was a bit nervous(so was I ,but I couldn't let her know it) she almost talked me out of stopping and asking, but we both are happy with the purchase! I am still looking for some parts(front spoiler) but everything else is there and works, although summer is coming and I need an ac check. Its quite heavy which is good becouse I like the stability. I'm tryn to see if I can squeeze a little extra hp out of it with advancing the ignition a bit, but not to "kill", pipes sound awesome while pulling and the back resonation when you lift off the gas is just to die for! Did I tell you that 100mph is a rush as I feel the motor is just starting to warm up and say GIVE ME MORE! I am already looking for another find FOR MY WIFE!
