what is this and what does it do
this is located on the passenger side intake valley right by number 4 cylinder, I can't locate in the work shop manuals. Is there any vacuum lines that come from this. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1274232653.jpg

Emissions system. Temperature valve. Also called thermostatic valve in cooling liquid in last picture, below. Shares a vac line with distrib advance as indicated. Yes, a line in and a line out.

Its a thermal vacuum valve with one leg broken off, goes between the throttle vacuum and the egr valve, if I remember correctly, could be air pump diverter or canister.

do I need to have this in my car, I think your pic is for the CIS system, I have the L Jetronic system. I don't think it was ever connected to the lines before.
|
Chris-
I don't think you need this. This is an attempt to make the CIS more accurate, i.e. reduce emissions. Reducing emissions is a GOOD idea. If I were you, I would remove that sensor and block off the electrical connections. You don't need it, it won't do anything for you, and it's just useless wiring. N! |
Why on earth would I post a picture of a CIS system?
The documentation is for the 82 from the 82 service book which introduces the new emissions set up for 82 and it carries for 83 and 84. The picture is from my hood on the 84 L-Jet. What's making you think it doesn't apply? Yes, you need it to have a functioning carbon cansister / emissions system. Normy, what electrical connection are you talking about? There isn't one on the object of which Trucker posted pictures. Those are vac lines. Do you even work on these cars? |
I looked at the pic from my hood and compared it to your hood and the part I am talking about isn't on my hood diagram. thats what I am confused about. Can I just block it off and loop it back in itself with a rubber hose. I looked it up in the book as well and it doesn't show the diagram for that either.
|
How come you don't just buy the proper part (new or used) and route the vacuum as it is supposed to be. Can't be that expensive used, try 928 Intl.
|
I think you need to start and double check all your vacuume lines. 1 wrong line and things will be screwed up.
|
Again, the information I posted is in the manual that was sent to dealer service folks to prepare for the USA 1982 car.
Can you post the 82 hood diagram? I'll help you reconcile them. You can also go to rennlist and search extensively on emmissions systems and their removal. Its bound to have been covered. |
How about this one. Look at #8 and it's vacuum route.

Might this be a conversion...euro cis body that someone put a l-jet motor in?? Regardless, Porsche's like most of the vacuum lines the manner they were designed to be... Jon |
I am on my in laws computer and my pics are on the laptop, I will try and transsfer the pics over tonight and show you what I got that is on my label, I will take a pic of the page in the wsm when I go back home on monday and show you what I got there as well.

here is the pics that are on my hood, there seems to be some differences between this pic and the above pic. but when I compare it to the book it doesnt have the piece by number 4 cylinder in the book.

Let's get this sorted. Post you Engine Number. It's located on the front of your engine next to your Water Neck (Passenger side).

This guy is in Australia, and his car is a CIS car, as opposed to a US model '82 which had L-jetronic injection. N |
MP, where did that picture come from? Is that 82?
Trucker that diagram is helpful. I'll lay them side by side in a comparison post, FWIW. The part to which you originally referred is common with both our cars, has the same function and also connects to the distributor. The 82 distributor looks like it has advance and retard modules, hence multiple vac hookups. Its a little hard on any of these hood charts to determine which port of the throttle body is attached to which system. |
I tried looking for the number of my engine on the pass side next to water neck, can I have a better description of where it is. How many numbers should it be. Thanks

YES I work on these cars. I've owned ONE 928, an '85 with LH-jetronic injection. I've driven it 70k miles in the past 11 years, and 97% of the maintenance was done by me. I bet it would roast every one of your cars in nearly every contest of speed- NOW....thank you for your thoughts. Might I ask you to go shove them up your ass? I was TRYING to help another 928 owner, and I think I even retired to the garage in order to access my manuals in order to give this guy some helpfull advice. I'm not an auto mechanic, but I've read these manuals for a decade now, and I've worked on cars since I was four years old when my dad used me to help him change the oil on his cars. Did I do something wrong? I thought he owned a CIS car. OK....well, maybe not. Your reaction leads me to think that you are a certain body part, the ring-muscle that we use each day to relieve ourselves. This is ridiculous; Why am I even responding to trash like this? I try to help someone out and I get called names? PSHHT! Go to hell. N! |
